Device And Method For Positioning An Implanted Structure To Facilitate Removal

US Patent:
2011023, Sep 29, 2011
Filed:
Mar 25, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/071709
Inventors:
Louis B. Goode - Cranberry Township PA, US
Chun Kee Lui - Apollo PA, US
Robert Booker - Vandergrift PA, US
Assignee:
Cook Medical Technologies LLC - Bloomington IN
International Classification:
A61B 19/00
US Classification:
606129
Abstract:
A device for adjusting a position of an elongated structure implanted in biological tissue to facilitate removal. An inner sleeve is received in an outer sleeve, and movable relative thereto. A manipulator mechanism is engaged with the inner sleeve distal end, and extends in a distal direction. The manipulator mechanism is arranged to capture the elongated structure, and to lock the elongated structure to the device upon relative movement of the sleeves. A handle is engaged with the inner sleeve, and a plunger is engaged with the outer sleeve. The plunger is engaged with the handle and movable relative thereto, wherein the outer sleeve advances distally relative to the inner sleeve to maneuver the manipulator mechanism to capture the implanted elongated structure. The position of the elongated structure may be controllably adjusted to facilitate removal thereof from the biological tissue.

Filter Removal Device

US Patent:
2014003, Jan 30, 2014
Filed:
Sep 12, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/610963
Inventors:
Louis B. Goode - Cranberry Township PA, US
Chun Kee Lui - Apollo PA, US
Robert Booker - Vandegrift PA, US
Michael W. Emmert - Apollo PA, US
Charles L. Mclntosh - Silver Springs MD, US
International Classification:
A61F 2/01
US Classification:
606200
Abstract:
There are disclosed embodiments of a system for retrieving a filter device from within a patient. A tube or sheath and one or more cables or other elongated members, which include a protrusion such as a bead at or adjacent a distal end, are movable with respect to each other. When the tube or sheath is adjacent a filter device, the cable or elongated member is extended so that the protrusion is between or through wires of the filter, and the protrusion is engaged to or between two or more of the wires. The filter is placed within the tube or sheath, as by retracting the cable or elongated member to pull the filter, by moving the tube or sheath over the cable or elongated member while it engages the filter under tension, or both.

Splittable Dilator Delivery System

US Patent:
2013005, Feb 28, 2013
Filed:
Aug 22, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/214578
Inventors:
Louis B. Goode - Cranberry Township PA, US
Chun Kee Lui - Apollo PA, US
Robert Booker - Vandergrift PA, US
Assignee:
Cook Medical Technologies LLC - Bloomington IN
International Classification:
A61B 17/34
US Classification:
60416405
Abstract:
A delivery system for an implantable member includes an elongated dilator splittable at both the proximal and distal ends. The dilator has a tapered distal end and a pair of tabs at the proximal end. An introducer for the implantable member is received in a passageway of the dilator and extends along a length of the dilator to the tapered distal end. The introducer is arranged relative to the dilator such that upon a relative proximal movement of the dilator, the tapered distal tip of the dilator splits whereby the distal end of the introducer extends therethrough. A handle has a gripping mechanism for engagement with each tab for initiating proximal movement of the dilator relative to the introducer upon rotation of the gripping mechanism. The handle is structured for splitting the dilator proximal portion upon the relative proximal movement of the dilator.

Echogenic Infusion Port Catheter

US Patent:
2012027, Nov 1, 2012
Filed:
Mar 2, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/410340
Inventors:
Chun Kee Lui - Apollo PA, US
International Classification:
A61B 8/00, B23P 17/04, A61B 17/34
US Classification:
600424, 60416401, 60416413, 29428
Abstract:
Among other things, a delivery catheter assembly for insertion into a patient's vasculature is disclosed. In particular embodiments, the assembly includes a catheter, an obturator, and a hub. The hub is configured to maintain the proximal end of the catheter thereon. The hub and the proximal end of the obturator are configured to securely engage each other until a physician desires to release the obturator from the hub. When the catheter and obturator are assembled, the distal ends of the catheter and the obturator are adjacent or substantially aligned. In one form, the distal end of the obturator is made of an echogenic material that is visible with sonography or ultrasound imaging. In another form, a plurality of echogenic markers is positioned along the obturator including the distal end of the obturator. Beneficially, the position of the catheter is determined by locating the obturator using sonography or ultrasound imaging.

Medical Imaging Septum And Access Port Device And Method

US Patent:
2011028, Nov 24, 2011
Filed:
May 20, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/783909
Inventors:
Christopher N. Magalich - Apollo PA, US
Chun Kee Lui - Apollo PA, US
International Classification:
A61M 31/00
US Classification:
60428802
Abstract:
Access, or injection ports, are disclosed. These are shown with various needle-penetrable sealing septums. The septum design is shown with a first and second (and optionally more) elastomeric regions. Indicia may be formed in at least one of said regions, by voids or otherwise and medical imaging additive may be used to provide radiopaque or other contrast between said regions to provide indicia. Such elements may include where two or more such regions are over-molded. The indicia may be on or embedded in the septum. Methods of making such septums and/or ports, including blending and molding is disclosed.

Snare System

US Patent:
2013007, Mar 28, 2013
Filed:
Sep 20, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/623355
Inventors:
Cook Medical Technologies LLC - Bloomington IN, US
Chun Kee Lui - Apollo PA, US
Michael Wayne Emmert - Apollo PA, US
Robert Booker - Vandergrift PA, US
Assignee:
Cook Medical Technologies LLC - Bloomington IN
International Classification:
A61B 17/00
US Classification:
606 1
Abstract:
A snare for deployment or retrieval of an implantable medical apparatus. The snare includes a shaft, and a tip distal of the shaft. The tip includes an extendable member capable of self-centering the implantable apparatus during a deployment or retrieval. The extendable member is selectively receivable in the tip, distally extendable from the tip, and rotatable relative to the tip. An activatable handle is engaged with the shaft. A wire has an end engaged with the handle and an end engaged with the tip. Upon activation, the wire is urged in a proximal direction, resulting in a flexure of the tip. An elongated mechanism has a proximal portion engaged with the handle, and a distal portion engaged with the tip extendable member. The elongated mechanism is configured for selectively controlling the receiving, deploying, and rotating of the extendable member.
