2012 Ericsson Business Unit Support Solutions Media Delivery Innovation Winner
Ericsson Business Unit Support Solutions
Selected as one of the 12 finalist out of 382 entries in the Ericsson Business Unit Support Solutions Innovation Competition for the Media Delivery segment. The IP for this invention has now been protected.
The invention is a system designed to handle advanced http adaptive streaming policy management using hierarchical weighted fair network queuing applied to sub-pipes as well as streams within the dynamic virtual sub-pipe. The invention allows operators to set bandwidth limits and weighting based on content, household account and similar. The invention also allows individual household accounts to specify a priority for all registered devices (televisions, tablets, computers, etc) so as to assure that they get the best picture possible where it matters most to them in times of clients competing for bandwidth within the home. This household priority will be used to distribute the fixed, operator determined, bandwidth available to the household to any of the various devices.
A prototype proof of concept was built for the final competition to held in Kista, Sweden in November 2012.
