Multiphase Clock Generation And Calibration

US Patent:
8294501, Oct 23, 2012
Filed:
Feb 25, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/035331
Inventors:
Christopher Thomas - San Diego CA, US
Yanggao Qiu - Shenzhen, CN
Junling Zang - Shenzhen, CN
Wei Fu - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
SMSC Holdings S.a.r.l. - Luxembourg
International Classification:
H03H 11/16
US Classification:
327237, 327233
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for improving the accuracy of phase spacing of multiphase clocks. In one example, method includes receiving a reference clock having a first frequency and sampling the reference clock with a plurality of multiphase clocks having a second frequency to generate a plurality of samples. The second frequency is a non-integer multiple of the first frequency. The method also includes detecting transitions of the reference clock occurring between the samples generated from a plurality of pairs of the multiphase clocks and counting the transitions to generate a transition count for each pair of the multiphase clocks. The method also includes summing a set of the transition counts to generate a measured phase for a first multiphase clock, calculating a reference phase for the first multiphase clock, and generating a phase skew value for the first multiphase clock based on the measured phase and the reference phase.

Flexchip-Mounted Fingerprint Sensor

US Patent:
2006012, Jun 15, 2006
Filed:
Dec 13, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/302857
Inventors:
Jun Ye - San Diego CA, US
Dejun Huang - San Diego CA, US
Christopher Thomas - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
H04K 1/00
US Classification:
713186000
Abstract:
A Flexchip-mounted Fingerprint Sensor is disclosed. Also disclosed is a sensor that applies flexchip-mounting techniques in a novel way that creates substantially versatility and cost savings in the resultant fingerprint sensor. Rather than employing a conventional transmitter ring separate from a receiver integrated circuit, the device employs a transceiver integrated circuit, such that the IC is both the transmitter and the receiver of the scanning signals. The device further includes a method for protecting the transceiver device that includes the application of a protective coating to the integrated circuit in advance of assembly of the entire sensor.

High-Speed Ieee 1394 Link Interface

US Patent:
2006005, Mar 9, 2006
Filed:
Sep 9, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/222703
Inventors:
Christopher Thomas - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
H04J 3/02
US Classification:
370462000, 370463000
Abstract:
A High-speed IEEE 1394 Link Interface is disclosed. Also disclosed is an interface device and method that is compatible with legacy IEEE 1394 devices. The device is used to replace a conventional 1394 physical layer interface device and can then cooperatively operate with a slightly modified link layer controller. The device is further selectively activatable and deactivatable. When activated, the device will double the clock speed, and therefore permit data transfer rates of 1600 Megabits per second, with Control Signal transfer speeds of 200 MHz.

Fingerprint Sensor And Interface

US Patent:
7978884, Jul 12, 2011
Filed:
Aug 2, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/832763
Inventors:
Christopher Thomas - San Diego CA, US
Octavian Popescu - New Westminster, CA
Jun Ye - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
SMSC Holdings S.a.r.l. - Luxembourg
International Classification:
G06K 9/00, G06K 7/00, G05B 19/00
US Classification:
382124, 382115, 382312, 340 583
Abstract:
A fingerprint sensor interface that connects to a standard camera interface and minimizes input and output signals to reduce sensor die area and cost. The sensor can connect to a standard camera interface of a cellular telephone baseband processor or other device intended to receive signals from a camera. Input and output pad are arranged on a single edge of the die. Circuitry between the pads and the sensor active array creates clearance from the array to the bond wires connected to the pads.
