Method And Apparatus For Tracking Signals

US Patent:
6356765, Mar 12, 2002
Filed:
Jul 27, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/360953
Inventors:
Christopher L. McCrank - Austin TX
Assignee:
Legerity, Inc. - Austin TX
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455465, 455414, 455426, 455462, 455463
Abstract:
In one aspect of the present invention, a method and apparatus are provided for tracking a plurality of frequency-shift-key modulated signals in a communications device. The method includes determining a first threshold value for a first input signal of the plurality of signals, comparing the first input signal to the first threshold value and providing a first output signal. The method includes determining a second threshold value for a second input signal of the plurality of signals, and retaining at least a portion of the first threshold value while determining the second threshold value.

Arrangement And Method For Selectable Time/Frequency Division Multiplex Communication

US Patent:
6269086, Jul 31, 2001
Filed:
Feb 27, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/031896
Inventors:
Javier V. Magana - Austin TX
Christopher L. McCrank - Austin TX
Assignee:
Legerity, Inc. - Austin TX
International Classification:
H04J 300
US Classification:
370280
Abstract:
A cordless telephone provides extended operating range and battery life. In one embodiment, a time division duplex communications protocol is used when the measured signal strength or the signal quality between the handset and a corresponding base unit does not satisfy a known criteria, such as a predetermined threshold. The telephone is also configured to operate using a frequency division duplex communications protocol when the signal strength or signal quality between the handset and the base unit satisfies the known criteria. Other aspects of the invention are directed to measuring the received signal strength of the communications channel after initial communications is established, and selecting the communications protocol that is most advantageous in light of the measured signal strength and/or signal conditions.

Method And Apparatus For Frequency Hopping In A Spread Spectrum Digital Cordless Telephone System

US Patent:
7042923, May 9, 2006
Filed:
Jul 27, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/361893
Inventors:
Christopher L. McCrank - Austin TX, US
Javier V. Magaña - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
Legerity, Inc. - Austin TX
International Classification:
H04K 1/00, H04B 15/00, H04L 27/30
US Classification:
375133, 375132, 375344, 370437
Abstract:
A communications system includes a first and second communication unit coupled together via a radio communications link. In one embodiment, the communications system takes the form of a frequency hopped, spread spectrum digital cordless telephone, where the first unit is a base unit and the second unit is the remote unit. The first and second communication units are respectively set to transmit and receive communication over a first radio frequency during a first time frame, select a second radio frequency during the first time frame, and set to respectively receive and transmit communication over the second radio frequency during a second time frame.

Measuring And Mapping Receiver Performance Using Global Positioning System (Gps)Data

US Patent:
2010014, Jun 10, 2010
Filed:
Dec 8, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/315935
Inventors:
Christopher L. McCrank - Austin TX, US
Joshua Caskey - Austin TX, US
International Classification:
G01C 21/30, G01S 1/00
US Classification:
701213, 34235706
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a method for performing testing of a receiver is provided. The method may include recording performance data associated with a radio signal received by a receiver, and recording global positioning system (GPS) data, where the GPS data is obtained from a GPS receiver co-located with the receiver. Then this data may be processed to map the performance data with the GPS data to indicate at least a location of the receiver and a corresponding receiver performance metric.

Method And Apparatus For Locating A Synchronization Signal

US Patent:
6865375, Mar 8, 2005
Filed:
Feb 24, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/256543
Inventors:
Christopher L. McCrank - Austin TX, US
Javier V. Magaña - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
Legerity, Inc. - Austin TX
International Classification:
H04Q007/20
US Classification:
455 70, 455502, 455462
Abstract:
In one aspect of the present invention, a method and apparatus are provided. The method includes detecting a synchronization signal within a plurality of channels. The method includes selecting a subset of the plurality of channels, wherein the subset includes more than one channel. The method further includes determining if the synchronization signal exists on at least one of the subset of channels and initiating communications in response to determining that the synchronization signal exists on at least one of the subset of channels.
