Abstract:
A new and useful apparatus for automatically correcting for the actual altitude of an aircraft, under non-ISA temperature conditions is provided. An apparatus according to the present invention can be particularly useful in automatically providing altitude correction output to a navigation and control system for an aircraft at selected points along an aircraft flight path where terrain clearance under non-ISA temperature conditions is an important operational parameter. An altitude correction device according to the invention is configured to provide altitude correction output with respect to a predetermined landing site as a function of the following formula to compute the aircraft's relation to the computed path relative to the predetermined landing site: ##EQU1## Where grad=0. 00198 deg/ft t. sub. o =Taer+grad*Haer (Taer being the temperature at the landing site and Haer being the landing site elevation) Tm.

Abstract:
A system and method for storing altimeter setting values on an aircraft display includes simultaneously rendering an altimeter and an active altimeter setting field, and selectively rendering a standby altimeter setting field simultaneously with the altimeter and the active altimeter setting field. An active altimeter setting value is rendered in the active altimeter setting field, and a stored altimeter setting value may be rendered in the standby altimeter setting field. Preferably, the stored altimeter setting value is selectively rendered in the standby altimeter setting field when the standby altimeter setting field is simultaneously rendered with the altimeter and the active altimeter setting field.

Abstract:
A high integrity navigation system and method are provided. The method comprises performing a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) of a desired flight path of an aircraft, for example an approach to an airport, and comparing the CRC with a stored CRC performed on the identified flight path. If the comparison exceeds a first threshold, a first alert is provided wherein the pilot is to perform a published missed approach. A second alert, also requiring a missed approach, is provided when one or more comparisons are performed of a sensor position of the aircraft with the high integrity flight path; a defined flight path with the high integrity flight path; and the sensor position with an aircraft position determined by a flight management system, and thresholds are exceeded.
