Cap Displacement Mechanism For Lancing Device And Multi-Lancet Cartridge

US Patent:
2013028, Oct 31, 2013
Filed:
Jun 27, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/928492
Inventors:
Christopher J. Ruf - Sandy Springs GA, US
John C. Irwin - Woodstock GA, US
Stephen J. Flynn - Peachtree City GA, US
Avi M. Robbins - Atlanta GA, US
Brian D. VANHIEL - Smyrna GA, US
Brian D. LEUTZ - McDonough GA, US
Richard W. LeVAUGHN - Newnan GA, US
Michael V. LIPOMA - Villa Rica GA, US
International Classification:
A61B 5/151
US Classification:
606183
Abstract:
A medical lancing device including a replaceable multi-lancet cartridge. The lancing device includes an advancing mechanism that advances lancets within the cartridge into an active position, separates a protective cap from the active lancet, and energize a drive mechanism of the lancing device. A cap displacement mechanism moves the separated cap out of the travel path of the active lancet. In a first example embodiment, the cap displacement mechanism includes a cantilevered spring arm that displaces the detached cap of the active lancet. In a second example embodiment, the cap displacement mechanism includes a spring-biased cam-driven plunger that displaces the detached cap of the active lancet. Then an activation mechanism releases the energized active lancet to traverse the unobstructed lancing stroke path to pierce the subject's skin at a desired lancing site.

Lancing Device Causing Reduced Pain

US Patent:
6045567, Apr 4, 2000
Filed:
Feb 23, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/255918
Inventors:
William C. Taylor - Rex GA
Richard Wayne LeVaughn - McDonough GA
John M. Purlee - San Jose CA
Christopher John Ruf - Atlanta GA
Assignee:
Lifescan Inc. - Milpitas CA
International Classification:
A61B 1714
US Classification:
606181
Abstract:
A lancing device has a spring-loaded lancet holder slidably mounted within a housing for carrying a disposable lancet and needle. A knob on the back of the device has forward-extending fingers that stop the lancet holder at an adjustable predetermined point after the device has been fired. The fingers not only control the penetration depth of the needle, but also absorb vibrations and reduce noise to cause less pain to the user.

Lancing Device Having A Releasable Connector

US Patent:
6197040, Mar 6, 2001
Filed:
Feb 23, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/255830
Inventors:
Richard Wayne LeVaughn - McDonough GA
John M. Purlee - San Jose CA
Christopher John Ruf - Atlanta GA
William C. Taylor - Rex GA
Assignee:
Lifescan, Inc. - Milpitas CA
International Classification:
A61B 1732
US Classification:
606182
Abstract:
A lancing device has a spring-loaded lancet holder slidably mounted within a housing for carrying a disposable lancet and needle. A slider mounted in a slot in the housing is moved back for cocking the device and, after the lancet is fired, is moved forward to eject the used lancet. A releasable connector reversibly immobilizes the holder while the lancet is being ejected. The releasable connector permits a shortened ejection stroke, which, in turn, permits a shorter slot in the housing.
