Two Layer Writer Heater Using Writer As One Current Lead

US Patent:
7403354, Jul 22, 2008
Filed:
Feb 28, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/068315
Inventors:
Ladislav R. Pust - Savage MN, US
Christopher J. Rea - Edina MN, US
Richard P. Larson - Brooklyn Park MN, US
Assignee:
Seagate Technology LLC - Scotts Valley CA
International Classification:
G11B 5/127
US Classification:
36012531, 36012574
Abstract:
A transducing device includes a writer having a pole tip region and a heater circuit. The heater circuit has a heating portion and a heater current return path. The heating portion has at least two branches positioned with respect to the writer so that current flowing through the at least two branches heat the writer. The heater current return path is electrically connected to the at least two branches of the heating portion near the pole tip region and includes an electrically conductive portion of the writer.

Mar 28, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/390681
Inventors:
Dehua Han - Eden Prairie MN, US
Xuefei Tang - Bloomington MN, US
Christopher James Rea - Edina MN, US
Jianhua Xue - Maple Grove MN, US
Assignee:
Seagate Technology LLC - Scotts Valley CA
International Classification:
G11B 5/127
US Classification:
360125000
Abstract:
A magnetic writer includes a write pole configured to reduce a skew effect during writing to a magnetic medium. A trailing portion of the write pole has a magnetic moment greater than a leading portion of the write pole.

Disc Drive With Layered Write Coil

US Patent:
6654202, Nov 25, 2003
Filed:
Jun 13, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/880344
Inventors:
Christopher J. Rea - Eden Prairie MN
Ladislav R. Pust - Savage MN
Anthony M. Mack - Minneapolis MN
Assignee:
Seagate Technology LLC - Scotts Valley CA
International Classification:
G11B 517
US Classification:
360123
Abstract:
A disc drive includes a disc and a read/write head accessing the disc. The head includes a thermally conductive substrate and a write coil window surrounded by a shared pole piece thermally coupled to the substrate, a central core, a write pole piece and a write gap. A bottom coil adjacent the shared pole piece has multiple turns that have bottom narrowed regions passing through the window. A top coil adjacent the write pole piece has multiple turns that have top narrowed regions passing through the window. The top turns are fewer in number and flattened relative to the bottom turns.

Domain Control In Shields Of A Magnetic Transducer

US Patent:
6710982, Mar 23, 2004
Filed:
Jun 21, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/886601
Inventors:
Anthony M. Mack - Minneapolis MN
Ladislav R. Pust - Savage MN
Christopher J. Rea - Eden Prairie MN
Sunita Gangopadhyay - Chanhassen MN
Patrick J. Ryan - St. Paul MN
Assignee:
Seagate Technology LLC - Scotts Valley CA
International Classification:
G11B 5127
US Classification:
360319
Abstract:
A read/write head includes a bottom shield and a shared shield. The shared shield includes a first domain and a plurality of closure domains. The read/write head also includes a magnetoresistive sensor deposited adjacent an air bearing surface between the bottom shield and the shared shield. The magnetoresistive sensor includes a magnetoresistor aligned with the first domain. Non-magnetic material separates the magnetoresistive sensor from the bottom shield and the shared shield. The shared shield includes a shaped feature that defines an unambiguous direction of magnetization for the first domain.

Wire-Assisted Magnetic Write Device Including Multiple Wire Assist Conductors

US Patent:
2009026, Oct 22, 2009
Filed:
Apr 18, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/105627
Inventors:
Jianhua Xue - Maple Grove MN, US
Yuming Zhou - Lakeville MN, US
Shaoping Li - Fremont CA, US
Johannes van Ek - Minnetonka MN, US
Christopher Rea - Edina MN, US
Assignee:
SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY LLC - Scotts Valley CA
International Classification:
G11B 9/00
US Classification:

Abstract:
A magnetic device includes a write element including a write element tip, and a conductive coil for carrying a write current to induce a first field in the write element. A first conductor proximate a trailing edge of the write pole tip is operable to carry a first assist current to generate a second field that augments the first field. A second conductor proximate a leading edge of the write pole tip is operable to carry a second assist current to generate a third field that augments the first field. First and second side shields are on opposing sides of the write element in a cross-track direction.
