Filed:
Jun 13, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/519157
Inventors:
Carl L. Christensen - South Jordan UT, US
Charles L. Johnson - Taylorsville UT, US
Lynn Howard Arbuckle - Bountiful UT, US
Assignee:
Thomson Licensing - Boulogne-Billancourt
International Classification:
G06F 15/16, G06F 9/00, G06F 12/14, G06F 3/00, G06F 13/00, G08B 29/00, H04L 29/06
US Classification:
726 34, 726 10, 713 1, 713153, 713165, 713189, 710 8, 710 15, 710104
Abstract:
A broadcast router includes plural input cards, first and second router matrix card and plural output cards. Programmable devices residing on the cards requiring configuration issue a request for configuration to a main controller which resides, with a shared configuration information repository on a configuration control card. After a period of time which allows additional programmable devices to request configuration elapses, the main controller polls the programmable devices residing on the cards to determine which of the programmable devices had requested configuration and, using the configuration information maintained in the shared configuration information repository, configures each programmable device which had requested configuration.

Enhanced Crosspoint Bus Protocol

US Patent:
2002015, Oct 31, 2002
Filed:
Feb 28, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/796184
Inventors:
Charles Johnson - Taylorsville UT, US
Assignee:
Koninklijke Philips Electronics N.V.
International Classification:
H04L012/403, H04L012/42, H04J003/16, H04J003/22
US Classification:
370/466000, 370/451000
Abstract:
An enhanced crosspoint bus control protocol is provided for expanding a conventional crosspoint bus by altering one or more bit definitions in a standard encoded bus control message. In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, by changing the definition of one or more predetermined bits in a message sequence such that these bits are control bits, the novel crosspoint bus control protocol preferably signifies whether the message corresponds to a standard crosspoint bus architecture or to an extended crosspoint bus architecture. The unique enhanced crosspoint bus protocol of the present invention supports an extended message length while being backward compatible with existing crosspoint bus protocols, thereby allowing the existing and enhanced crosspoint bus protocols to advantageously co-exist on the same physical bus.
