Filed:
Jul 27, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/916548
Inventors:
Charles N. Harper - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Air Liquide Large Industries U.S. LP - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06Q 40/00
US Classification:
705 37, 705412
Abstract:
A decision support system and method is provided for responding to a deregulated electrical energy environment for use in making decisions related to supplying and purchasing electrical power. In a preferred embodiment, the decision support system comprises a plurality of interconnected models that produce information related to various business operations. A contract valuation model produces a value of energy contracts based upon timely data such as contract terms, real-time commodity pricing, and forecasted commodity pricing. A potential action valuation model generates value for potential, predefined operational actions at a given production facility in response to a particular opportunity. A forecasting and planning model provides forecasting services related to energy based upon historical and current real-time data for use in other models. A supply chain optimizer provides overall supply information related to supplying a plurality of electrical generating facilities to thereby indicate economies for overall system operation.

Computer-Implemented Method For Managing Commodity Consumption Within An Industrial Production Facility

US Patent:
2011025, Oct 13, 2011
Filed:
Dec 16, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/969949
Inventors:
Elias Margonis - Houston TX, US
Charles Neely Harper - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Air Liquide Large Industries U.S. LP - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06Q 10/00
US Classification:
705 34
Abstract:
Techniques are disclosed for managing certain aspects of a large industrial operation (such as a pipeline). A commodity materials invoice system may allow a user to model a commodity invoice as a template and subsequently use that template to model commodity usage for different periods of time. Costs for a given billing period may be estimated based on actual commodity consumption. For example, data from a SCADA system monitoring different aspects of a pipeline may be used to estimate invoice costs for retail commodity consumption. The commodity materials invoice system may be configured to present both estimated and actualized invoice data side-by-side, allowing users to make a direct comparison of the estimated and actualized invoice data.

Thomas Parias - Chicago IL, US
Charles N. Harper - Houston TX, US
Michael T. Boczon - Houston TX, US
Joel R. Henry - Pearland TX, US
Assignee:
American Air Liquide, Inc. - Houston TX
Air Liquide Large Industries U.S. LP - Houston TX
International Classification:
G08B 21/00
US Classification:
340605, 340603, 340606
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention provide a method, article of manufacture, and system of detecting a cryogenic leak. In one embodiment, the method includes calibrating an infrared camera by detecting one or more first areas of low temperature in a first infrared image of a location received from the infrared camera wherein the low temperature is lower than an ambient temperature, detecting one or more second areas of low temperature in a second infrared image of the location received from the infrared camera wherein the low temperature in the second infrared image is lower than the ambient temperature and indicative of the cryogenic leak, and wherein the one or more second areas are not the one or more first areas, and in response to detecting the one or more second areas of low temperature in the second infrared image, generating an alarm message which indicates the cryogenic leak.

Optimizing Operations Of A Hydrogen Pipeline System

US Patent:
8065243, Nov 22, 2011
Filed:
Apr 18, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/105985
Inventors:
Charles N. Harper - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Air Liquide Large Industries U.S. LP - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 15/18, G06N 3/00, G06N 3/12
US Classification:
706 13
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention provide a computerized optimization system configured to optimize the operations of a hydrogen generation, processing, and delivery network. Such a network typically includes a complex of physical equipment, plants, and pipelines, including both production and distribution facilities. A hydrogen optimization system provides a software system that optimizes the production and distribution of hydrogen over such a hydrogen network. The hydrogen optimization system may use both a genetic algorithm configured to “evolve” a population of solutions to improve the quality of solutions over time as well as directed heuristics to identify a superior operating state for the hydrogen pipeline network.

Production Optimizer For Supply Chain Management

US Patent:
8112300, Feb 7, 2012
Filed:
Apr 12, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/279557
Inventors:
Charles N. Harper - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Air Liquide Large Industries U.S. LP - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06Q 10/00
US Classification:
705 726, 705 712
Abstract:
One embodiment of the invention provides a method for optimizing a supply chain management (SCM) problem. A genetic algorithm optimization technique may be used to generate a production solution for the production side of an SCM problem and an ant colony optimization technique may be used to generate a solution for the distribution side of the SCM problem. Together, the genetic algorithm optimization technique and the ant colony optimization technique operate to quickly identify high-quality solutions to an SCM problem.

Management Of Volumetric Product Delivery

US Patent:
8306884, Nov 6, 2012
Filed:
Oct 12, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/902549
Inventors:
Elias Margonis - Houston TX, US
Charles N. Harper - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Air Liquide Industrial U.S. LP - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06Q 10/00
US Classification:
705 34
Abstract:
A billing system for supply contrasts in an industrial network is disclosed. In the case of a pipeline, a process flow computer installed at each customer site may each receive instantaneous flow readings from a flow meter. The process flow computer may be configured to accumulate product volumes in different volume groups, where each volume group corresponds to a range of instantaneous flow rates. Different volume groups may be associated with different rates ultimately charged to a customer. The volume groups may be assigned by a computing system running a billing application at a pipeline operations control center. Volume groups may be set for individual customers based on a contract summary of an agreement between a given customer and the operator of an industrial network.

Steam Meter

US Patent:
7703338, Apr 27, 2010
Filed:
Sep 10, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/207868
Inventors:
Charles Neely Harper - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Air Liquide Large Industries U.S. LP - Houston TX
International Classification:
G01F 1/44
US Classification:
7386163
Abstract:
A flowmeter detects a differential pressure of steam as the steam passes through a conduit with a feature shaped to produce changes in velocity and pressure of the steam. Taps used to enable detection of the differential pressure extend from a wall of the conduit upward toward vertical (defined as parallel to the direction of gravitational force) in order to drain liquid water into the conduit from the tap. The differential pressure measured enables calculation of flow rate of the steam.
