Method And Apparatus For Displaying A Customized Caller Line Identification

US Patent:
2012015, Jun 21, 2012
Filed:
Dec 15, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/968498
Inventors:
Mark R. Lemke - Mundelein IL, US
Charles P. Binzel - Bristol WI, US
Jerome Vogedes - Milwaukee WI, US
Assignee:
Motorola Mobility, Inc. - Libertyville IL
International Classification:
H04M 1/56
US Classification:
37914204
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for a customized CLI comprise receiving, by a network element, a first message from a transmitting device during a call set up. The network element then retrieves an identification of the transmitting device from the first message and obtains a first Caller Line Identification (CLI) of the transmitting device corresponding to the retrieved identification. Further, the network element determines whether the first message includes a first indicator and retrieves a data message from the first message when the first message includes a first indicator. The network element then adds the data message, the first CLI, and a second indicator to a second message and transmits the second message to a receiving device during the same call set up, for displaying a customized CLI on the receiving device, thereby alerting a user of the receiving device of an incoming call.

Abstract:
A method for a radiotelephone to search for a high priority, home, or home-equivalent public land mobile network (PLMN) includes a first step of camping the radiotelephone on a cell of visited PLMN. A next step includes uniquely identifying the cell. A next step includes searching for PLMNs with a higher priority than the visited PLMN. A next step includes storing a history of those frequencies found that are not of a higher priority PLMN for the uniquely identified cell. Any subsequent searches for frequencies of higher priority PLMNs performed while camped on that cell includes scanning for available frequencies except for those frequencies listed in the history for the uniquely identified cell in which the radiotelephone is camped.

Multiple Mode Scanning

US Patent:
2006000, Jan 12, 2006
Filed:
Jun 30, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/880930
Inventors:
William Welnick - Poway CA, US
William Alberth - Crystal Lake IL, US
Charles Binzel - Bristol WI, US
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
455434000
Abstract:
A method () for scanning of channels by a multi-mode communication device includes the steps of making a scan list () operative for more than one mode, modifying the scan list () to remove all non-current-mode systems, and sequentially scanning () a highest priority channel on the modified scan list. If the communication device has recently found service on a particular system in a first mode, the communication device will only search for systems that are associated with that first mode. This use of a modified scan list applies both to power up scanning situations and scanning after power up situations. Modifying a scan list to remove all non-current mode systems allows the multi-mode communication device to avoid scanning for systems that are geographically unavailable and instead acquire a system in less time and with less power consumption.
