Abstract:
A process for preparing a hydrophilic water insoluble acrylic polymer by heating a composition consisting essentially of a compound having the generic formula ##STR1## wherein --R. sub. 1 is --H, --CH. sub. 3, or --CH. sub. 2 CH. sub. 3 and --R. sub. 2 is a lower alkyl radical containing at least one hydroxy group, said composition being essentially free from polymerization catalysts and initiators; the polymer resulting from the process and articles including contact lens blanks and contact lenses manufactured from the polymer.
