Noise-Reducing Fluid-Flow Devices

US Patent:
3960239, Jun 1, 1976
Filed:
Aug 15, 1973
Appl. No.:
5/388636
Inventors:
Alain Frochaux - Boston MA
Charles M. Salerno - Wayland MA
Assignee:
Barry Wright Corporation - Watertown MA
International Classification:
F01N 110, B21D 5300
US Classification:
181 49
Abstract:
The invention consists of provision of novel noise-silencing fluid-discharge devices which provide superior noise reduction. The devices comprise one or more flow-modifying elements which are made by rolling and compacting knitted metal wire mesh fabric. A preferred embodiment of the invention is an air discharge nozzle which is characterized by a high air discharge velocity while simultaneously effecting a sharp reduction in noise.

Pneumatic Vibration Isolator And Suspension System

US Patent:
4029305, Jun 14, 1977
Filed:
Oct 10, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/621509
Inventors:
Dale W. Schubert - Sudbury MA
Charles M. Salerno - Wayland MA
Assignee:
Barry Wright Corporation - Watertown MA
International Classification:
F16F 367
US Classification:
267 65R
Abstract:
A self-positioning shock and vibration isolating suspension system is disclosed which incorporates one or more pneumatic mounts for supporting a load on a base. Each pneumatic mount comprises a hollow elastomer body with a diaphragm at each end, means for connecting one diaphragm to a base and the other to the load, means for pressurizing the elastomer body with a fluid so that the diaphragms and the fluid acting thereon form a pneumatic spring having a spring stiffness less than that of the hollow body, and means for varying the fluid pressure within the elastomer body in accordance with changes in the magnitude of the load.

Method Of Coinjection Molding Of Thermoplastic And Thermoplastic Elastomer

US Patent:
4385025, May 24, 1983
Filed:
Oct 20, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/198792
Inventors:
Charles M. Salerno - Wayland MA
Harold V. Hamilton - Bedford MA
Dale W. Schubert - Sudbury MA
Assignee:
Barry Wright Corporation - Newton Lower Falls MA
International Classification:
B29H 308
US Classification:
264255
Abstract:
Vibration isolators are manufactured by a co-injection molding process. Outer and inner parts of the isolators are molded first from a rigid or stiff thermoplastic material such as polystyrene and intermediate spring-like parts of the isolators are made of a thermoplastic elastomer such as copolymer of butadiene and styrene formed and bonded to the outer and inner parts in a subsequent molding step.
