Low Phase Noise Oscillator

US Patent:
6489853, Dec 3, 2002
Filed:
Mar 19, 2002
Appl. No.:
09/742958
Inventors:
Charles Lewis - San Diego CA
Assignee:
Z-Communications, Inc. - San Diego CA
International Classification:
H03B 512
US Classification:
331117R, 331 36 C, 331 96, 331117 D, 331175, 331177 V
Abstract:
An oscillator is described which exhibits low phase noise characteristics. The oscillator circuit of the invention includes an inductor in series with a low value capacitor, this series combination of an inductor and a capacitor, in parallel with a low value inductor forms a resonator whose inductive and capacitive reactances are a very low value. This causes the loaded Q to be very close to the resonators unloaded Q.

Low Phase Noise Uhf And Microwave Oscillator

US Patent:
5748051, May 5, 1998
Filed:
May 16, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/648909
Inventors:
Charles Lewis - San Diego CA
Assignee:
Z-Communications, Inc. - San Diego CA
International Classification:
H03B 512, H03B 518
US Classification:
331117R
Abstract:
An oscillator circuit is described which exhibits low phase noise characteristics and has special application in UHF and microwave technologies. The oscillator circuit of the invention includes a band pass filter having specific capacitor and inductor values which can be optimized so that the circuit has a loaded Q very close to the resonator's unloaded Q.

Surface Mounted Inductance Element

US Patent:
2003015, Aug 14, 2003
Filed:
Feb 8, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/068529
Inventors:
Charles Lewis - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
H01F005/00
US Classification:
336/200000
Abstract:
A surface mountable inductor is provided which is a rectangular cross section coil mounted to a dielectric block. The inductor avoids mechanical vibration and provides a flat top surface to facilitate use, for example, in circuit boards. Attachment of the device is facilitated by bi-sected connecting terminals.
