Philosophy:
When I meet with individuals and couples in my office, I welcome them, and then we discuss the concerns which led to the appointment. I listen carefully, ask questions, and collect information that is helpful in formulating intervention plans.
In the course of our work together, individuals and couples have the opportunity to express themselves and to address the concerns while I offer information, insight, and recommendations. Specific treatment modalities are selected with the individuals so that the most preferred and effective strategies are utilized. Assessment scales are included to help delineate concerns and plan treatments.
I relate with children and teenagers so that they are comfortable and able to engage in conversation with me. I utilize play therapy as appropriate with younger children. I collaborate with parents throughout treatment.
With children, adolescents, and adults, I utilize structured programs as helpful in areas including anger-management, addictions, marriage, and parenting. Reading and writing assignments are available to help with progress toward treatment objectives. Reports to physicians, psychiatrists, schools, probation officers, and others are provided as necessary.
I respect the world view of all individuals. My own world view is Christian. I appreciate and value the opportunity that I have had to work with children and adults in educational and clinical settings for over three decades. I have seen lives saved, marriages restored, healing from hurt and abuse, psychological problems managed, children thrive, and teenagers survive! I continue working to advance my practice using evidenced-based procedures and drawing on an ever-increasing range of personal experience.
In my office, I am affiliated with a group of therapists who provide a range of services, and we work closely together to meet the needs of couples and families.
