International Marimba Festival - Chiapas, Mexico - Cecilia represented the U.S.A.
The International Marimba Festival invites mallet percussion players from different regions of the world to perform and conduct educational clinics during this week long celebration of this unique instrument. This year mallets players from Japan, Columbia, Mexico, France, South Africa and the USA were presented. It was an extremely exciting week of music, fellowship and cultural exchanges with some of the worlds leading mallets players. It was an honor to be amongst such an elite group of world class musicians. As a mallet player and more specifically a vibraphone player, often I spend a lot of time explaining what a vibraphone actually is, because most people don't know. Marimba, Vibraphone, Xylophone and Glockenspiel are percussion keyboard instruments. Marimba is the National Instrument of Mexico. The Vibraphone is more well known in the USA. It was great to be what I started to call, my "LOST TRIBE" of people who do what I do. The highlight of my year for sure. Check my FB page for photo's.
