Ablation Needle Guide

US Patent:
2009030, Dec 10, 2009
Filed:
Jun 9, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/135690
Inventors:
Steven P. Buysse - Longmont CO, US
Casey M. Ladtkow - Arvada CO, US
Joshua K. Buysse - Longmont CO, US
International Classification:
A61B 18/14
US Classification:
606 41
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to systems and devices for positioning and placing multiple electrodes in a target surgical site. A guide block is disclosed which introduces electrodes into target tissue and includes an elongated, generally rectilinear bar having a plurality of slots defined therethrough. Each of the slots is configured to selectively receive and retain a corresponding electrode therein. The rectilinear bar is malleable and selectively bendable from a substantially linear configuration to a substantially curved configuration to facilitate positioning the guide block relative to target tissue.

Apparatus, System And Method For Monitoring Tissue During An Electrosurgical Procedure

US Patent:
2010009, Apr 15, 2010
Filed:
Oct 10, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/249263
Inventors:
Arlen K. Ward - Thornton CO, US
Casey M. Ladtkow - Arvada CO, US
International Classification:
A61B 18/18, A61B 18/14
US Classification:
606 33, 606 41
Abstract:
A system for monitoring and/or controlling tissue modification during an electrosurgical procedure is provided. The system includes an electrosurgical apparatus adapted to connect to an electrosurgical generator. The electrosurgical apparatus configured to transmit energy to tissue. The system also includes a control system having one or more electromagnetic wave sources configured to generate the interrogator wave of one or more frequencies adjacent tissue. One or more sensors are configured to transmit and sense a reflected portion of the interrogator wave of at least one frequency to determine dielectric boundary data. A processor operatively coupled to the control system and to the electrosurgical generator configured to control the delivery of electrosurgical energy from the electrosurgical generator to tissue based on dielectric boundary data provided by the one or more sensors.

Thermal Feedback Systems And Methods Of Using The Same

US Patent:
2008018, Jul 31, 2008
Filed:
Jan 31, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/023606
Inventors:
Steven Paul Buysse - Longmont CO, US
Casey M. Ladtkow - Arvada CO, US
Brandon C. Gay - Superior CO, US
International Classification:
A61B 18/12
US Classification:
606 34
Abstract:
A system for providing feedback during an electrosurgical procedure on a target tissue is provided. The system includes an electrosurgical energy source; an electrode probe assembly connected to the electrosurgical energy source, wherein the electrode probe assembly includes at least one electrode assembly having a needle configured to deliver electrosurgical energy to the target tissue; at least one thermal feedback assembly connected to the electrosurgical energy source, wherein each thermal feedback assembly includes at least one temperature sensor assembly; and a hub configured to selectively support the electrode probe assembly and each thermal feedback assembly such that the needle of the electrode probe assembly and each temperature sensor assembly of each thermal feedback assembly are proximate one another when disposed proximate the target tissue.

Method For Volume Determination And Geometric Reconstruction

US Patent:
2009011, May 7, 2009
Filed:
Oct 29, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/260811
Inventors:
Kimberly Krugman - Boulder CO, US
Casey M. Ladtkow - Arvada CO, US
International Classification:
A61B 18/14, A61B 6/00, A61B 5/055
US Classification:
600431, 600407, 606 41
Abstract:
A method for determining a volume of ablated tissue includes the steps of supplying energy to tissue, indicating an axis within the tissue, and simulating slicing of the tissue substantially perpendicular to the axis to obtain a plurality of simulated slices. Each of the plurality of simulated slices has a thickness, a cross-sectional perimeter, and a trajectory point defined by the axis within the tissue. The method further includes the steps of determining a volume of each of the plurality of simulated slices based on the trajectory point, the cross-sectional perimeter, and the thickness of each simulated slice, and summing the volumes from each of the plurality of simulated slices to obtain the volume of the ablated tissue.

Re-Hydration Antenna For Ablation

US Patent:
2009024, Oct 1, 2009
Filed:
Mar 27, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/413023
Inventors:
Joseph A. Paulus - Louisville CO, US
Arnold V. DeCarlo - Frederick CO, US
Casey M. Ladtkow - Arvada CO, US
Behzad Ghorbani-Elizeh - Boulder CO, US
Brandon C. Gay - Superior CO, US
International Classification:
A61B 18/18, A61N 1/02
US Classification:
606 33, 607156
Abstract:
A system for use with a microwave antenna includes a microwave antenna configured to deliver microwave energy from a power source to tissue and a sensor module in operative communication with the power source and configured to detect a reflectance parameter. The system further includes a jacket adapted to at least partially surround the microwave antenna to define a fluid channel between the jacket and the microwave antenna. A plurality of fluid distribution ports are defined through the jacket and are in fluid communication with the fluid channel to permit the flow of fluid through the jacket. The system further includes a fluid pumping system operably coupled to the power source and configured to selectively provide cooling fluid to the fluid channel for distribution through the fluid distribution ports based on the reflectance parameter.
