Container With Shock-Absorbing Insert

US Patent:
5823352, Oct 20, 1998
Filed:
Jun 3, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/868159
Inventors:
J. Joe Mena - Colorado Springs CO
Charles F. Johnson - Colorado Springs CO
Carol L. Johnson - Colorado Springs CO
Gustav M. Maenpaa - Colorado Springs CO
Assignee:
Summit Container Corporation - Monument CO
International Classification:
B65D 550
US Classification:
206721
Abstract:
A specialized container is ideally suited to protecting electronic boards being transported from injury due to physical shock and electrostatic shock. The container consists of an outer shell and at least one insert. The outer shell and each insert can be made of electrostatic discharge protective corrugated fiberboard material. The outer shell is basically a rectangular prism, suitable for receiving a electronic board with a substantially rectangular base. A first insert is easily placed within the outer shell, consisting of a platform on which the board will rest and at least one resilient and compressible support member extending down from the platform to the bottom panel of the outer shell. To provide further protection for the board, a second insert may be placed on top of the first, with a tab extending downward from the second insert to a slit in the first insert platform. The board then rests on the platform of the second insert.

Container With Adjustable Inner Partitions

US Patent:
2006012, Jun 15, 2006
Filed:
Dec 14, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/012943
Inventors:
Jesse Mena - Manitou Springs CO, US
Carol Johnson - Colorado Springs CO, US
Charles Johnson - Colorado Springs CO, US
Daniel Reichenberg - Monument CO, US
International Classification:
B65D 81/02
US Classification:
206521000
Abstract:
A container with adjustable inner partitions provides flexibility for holding different sizes of substantially rectangular products. The partitions also cushion the product to protect against damage from physical pressure exerted on the box. Within the four walls of a rectangular box, panels are aligned parallel to the top and bottom walls. Multiple slots are formed in the panels, said slots opposing each other to create pairs of panel slots suitable for receiving a partition perpendicular to the panels. Multiple pairs of slots formed in the panels enable dual partitions to be inserted between the panels at a variety of positions. Two partitions are inserted in pairs of panel slots providing an appropriate distance between the partitions to secure a particular size rectangular product in between the partitions. Each partition may be provided with a slot convenient for receiving an edge of the rectangular product, to hold the product in place.

Box Insert

US Patent:
2011004, Mar 3, 2011
Filed:
Aug 28, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/584026
Inventors:
Jesse Joe Mena - Manitou Springs CO, US
Carol Louise Johnson - Colorado Springs CO, US
Robert Francis Grady - Lake Zurich IL, US
International Classification:
B65D 81/133
US Classification:
206592, 53472
Abstract:
A product is secured within a box, using an apparatus that can be re-used to secure a different sized or shaped product. The apparatus is a box insert having a rigid sheet that fits snugly within the box, and multiple supports mounted on both the top and bottom of the rigid sheet. The supports mounted on the top side of the insert are spaced in an opposing manner to hold a first product snugly between those supports, while the supports mounted on the bottom side are spaced to hold a second product of a different shape or size. The insert is placed in a box so that either the top side or the bottom side of the insert is closest to the top of the box to serve as a support for whichever sized and shaped product best fits within the supports on that top-facing side of the insert.
