Philosophy:
I am an orthopaedic surgical oncologist with expertise in treating both children and adults with bone and soft tissue sarcomas of the pelvis and extremities. Sarcomas are a very rare group of tumors that arise from connective tissues such as bone and muscle. I work with a large team of doctors, including pediatric and adult oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, and surgical oncologists to develop expert care plans that are unique to each patient.
The majority of patients who have surgery for sarcomas have limb-sparing surgery, meaning that the tumor can be removed without amputating a limb. As an orthopaedic surgeon, a large focus of my work involves developing and refining reconstruction options for knees, hips, shoulders, and other parts of the body that provide patients with the most function and increase the longevity of the artificial body part. I also treat patients with cancer that has spread to bone. My research interests include identifying novel targets and therapies for treating bone and soft tissue tumors.
