Fluid Flow Rate And Volume Sensor, And Filtration Apparatuses And Purification Apparatuses Having Such A Sensor

US Patent:
2006024, Nov 2, 2006
Filed:
Feb 27, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/363461
Inventors:
Richard Williams - Uwchland PA, US
Carl Beiswenger - Pottstown PA, US
Brian D'Archangelo - Chester Springs PA, US
Gene Toner - Quakertown PA, US
International Classification:
G01F 1/00
US Classification:
073861000
Abstract:
A flow rate and volume sensor for determining the rate and volume of fluid flowing through an apparatus, such as an apparatus for filtering and/or conditioning and/or purifying fluid, such as water, and for indicating when a predetermined volume of fluid has flowed through the apparatus to, for example, signal when a cartridge filter housed in an apparatus for filtering and/or conditioning and/or purifying fluid should be replaced. In an apparatus for filtering and/or conditioning and/or purifying fluid, such as water, having a pressure vessel, an inlet port formed in the pressure vessel for introducing fluid to the pressure vessel, an outlet port formed in the pressure vessel for discharging fluid from the pressure vessel, and a chamber formed in the pressure vessel between the inlet and outlet ports for holding a cartridge filter, the fluid flow rate and volume sensor comprises an impeller mounted inside the pressure vessel for rotating in response to and at a rate in proportion to fluid flowing through the pressure vessel and past the impeller device, and a sensor device positioned outside the pressure vessel responsive to the impeller device for determining rate and volume of fluid flowing through the pressure vessel and for indicating when a cartridge filter housed in the apparatus for filtering and/or conditioning and/or purifying fluid is to be replaced based upon a determination by the sensor device that a predetermined volume of fluid has flowed through the pressure vessel.

Apparatus For Filtering And/Or Conditioning And/Or Purifying A Fluid Such As Water

US Patent:
2011008, Apr 21, 2011
Filed:
Aug 6, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/806233
Inventors:
Richard T. Williams - Glenmoore PA, US
Carl Beiswenger - Pottstown PA, US
International Classification:
B01D 35/157, C02F 1/00
US Classification:
210120, 210235
Abstract:
An apparatus for filtering water has an interface and a filtration/purification canister removably mountable thereon. Connecting the canister to the interface automatically opens a check valve in the interface to permit water to flow from the interface into and through the canister, and then back to and through the interface to an outlet port. Disconnecting the canister from the interface automatically closes the check valve, stopping the flow of water. An end cap may be substituted for the canister to permit fluid to flow through the interface when the canister is not mounted on the interface. The outlet port may be directly connected to an appliance that uses water, to eliminate possible contamination that may occur when water is brought indirectly form the outlet port to the appliance instead. A flapper valve is provided in the canister to prevent back flow of fluid from the inlet port of the canister when the canister is not mounted on the interface. The flapper valve also is provided with an actuating means to automatically open the flapper valve when the canister is mounted on the interface, which permits fluid to be drained from the canister when the fluid distribution system is being drained without disconnecting the canister from the interface.

Apparatus For Filtering And/Or Conditioning And/Or Purifying A Fluid Such As Water

US Patent:
2010017, Jul 8, 2010
Filed:
Jan 3, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/319219
Inventors:
Richard T. Williams - Uwchland PA, US
Carl Beiswenger - Pottstown PA, US
International Classification:
E03B 7/07, F24D 19/08, B01D 17/00, B01D 35/147, C02F 1/00
US Classification:
210741, 137544, 137197, 210136, 210133, 210134, 210120
Abstract:
An apparatus for filtering water has a valve head and a filtration/purification canister removably mountable thereon. Connecting the canister to the valve head automatically opens a check valve in the valve head to permit water to flow from the valve head into and through the canister, and then back to and through the valve head to an outlet port. Disconnecting the canister from the valve head automatically closes the check valve, stopping the flow of water. A bypass valve is provided in the valve head to permit a sanitizing solution to flow through the valve head and along the lines of the water distribution system to sanitize the system, while bypassing the canister. The outlet port may be directly connected to an appliance that uses water, to eliminate possible contamination that may occur when water is brought indirectly from the outlet port to the appliance instead.
