Wastewater Treatment System With Enhanced Directional Flow

US Patent:
6224773, May 1, 2001
Filed:
Oct 8, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/415530
Inventors:
Carl E. Adams - Brentwood TN
Assignee:
The Advent Corporation - Brentwood TN
International Classification:
C02F 320
US Classification:
210626
Abstract:
A wastewater treatment system has a tank and at least one baffle disposed in the tank so as to subdivide the tank to form a treatment chamber and a clarification or settling chamber. The baffle is inclined relative to vertical, so that the clarification chamber tapers from an upper end to a lower end. The lower end of the clarification chamber is provided with a plurality of mutually spaced orifices or apertures communicating with a lower region of the treatment chamber, so that sludge settling in the clarification chamber is directed to the lower region of the treatment chamber via the orifices. The clarification chamber is further provided at its lower end with a plurality of substantially vertical partitions defining a plurality of hoppers communicating with respective orifices for guiding sludge to the orifices. A recycle pump and a distribution manifold serve to recycle wastewater from the treatment chamber to the clarification chamber. The distribution manifold is provided at an outlet side with a plurality of spaced vertical nozzle pipes disposed in the clarification chamber.

Integrated Wastewater Treatment System With Induced Sludge Velocity

US Patent:
5766459, Jun 16, 1998
Filed:
Feb 8, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/599600
Inventors:
Carl E. Adams - Brentwood TN
International Classification:
C02F 320
US Classification:
2101954
Abstract:
An integral activated sludge wastewater treatment system has a vessel having at least one internal baffle dividing the vessel into at least one treatment chamber and at least one settling chamber. The settling chamber is at least partially defined by a first wall of the baffle. The treatment chamber is at least partially defined by a second wall of the baffle. A recycle pump is provided for recycling aerated wastewater from the treatment chamber back into the settling chamber and inducing a downward sludge velocity in excess of the velocity that would be caused by gravity alone.

Biomass Conditioner

US Patent:
5830351, Nov 3, 1998
Filed:
Feb 8, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/599599
Inventors:
Carl E. Adams - Brentwood TN
International Classification:
C02F 312
US Classification:
2101953
Abstract:
A wastewater treatment system has at least one treatment chamber and at least one settling chamber. An influent conduit connects the treatment chamber to a source of wastewater. A pump is provided for transferring treated wastewater, the treated wastewater being a water/biomass mixture, from the treatment chamber to the settling chamber by way of a transfer conduit. An effluent conduit removes treated wastewater from the settling chamber. A treatment system is provided for treating water in the treatment chamber. A biomass conditioner in the transfer conduit conditions the biomass by removing energy from the water/biomass mixture.
