Dental Handpiece Syringe Adaptor And Tip

US Patent:
6149429, Nov 21, 2000
Filed:
Mar 19, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/272997
Inventors:
Joseph S. Bukowski - Wayne NJ
Bruce S. Fine - Wayne NJ
International Classification:
A61C 1700
US Classification:
433 80
Abstract:
An adaptor for a dental syringe handpiece has a central bore forming two chambers one of which receives a disposable syringe tip and the other selectively applied pressurized water and/or air from the handpiece. The adapter in one embodiment has a shoulder in the central bore acting as a stop for the tip to form the two chambers. In another embodiment, a tube attached to the adaptor in the adaptor bore serves as a stop for the tip. In another embodiment the tube has a sharp edge which engages the tip in the adaptor bore. The tip is urged against the edge by a gripping member and nut as the nut is tightened over the adaptor. The tip has several embodiments wherein a central passageway is surrounded by a plurality of outer passageways, the outer passages being arranged in arrays on different diameter circles. The outer passageways may be of different diameters and shapes. In a further embodiment, the tip is axially positioned in the adaptor bore at different positions to form an air-water mixing chamber of variable volume which sets the spray from a fine to coarse stream wherein the coarse stream is mainly large water droplets and the fine stream is a mist of fine water droplets and air.

Inventors:
Bruce Fine - Wayne NJ, US
International Classification:
A61F013/15, A61F013/20, A61M001/00
US Classification:
604/540000, 604/360000, 604/368000, 604/378000, 604/385101
Abstract:
A disposable superabsorbent article, and methods of use thereof, has superabsorbent cross-linked acrylate particles enveloped in a clean or sterile environment by an adhesively-sealed or heat-sealed plastic; paper; creped or microcreped paper or plastic; or woven, netted, nonwoven or fabric envelope, in shapes allowing for internal or external use, which permit the improved absorption and retention of fluids in medical, dental, veterinary, emergency care, mortuary, or surgical settings. Axial, circumferential, stellate, or other organized or random pleating or creping in either a single layer or in strata, and breakaway tabs in an alternative embodiment, are provided in the envelope to allow for controlled directional expansion of the fluid absorption. The superabsorbent article may be impregnated with therapeutically-effective amounts of antibiotic, antimicrobial, anticoagulating, or hemostatic or other agents.
