Abstract:
A quasi-passive identification system having an interrogator and a passive ransponder. The interrogator has a signal generator that generates radio-frequency energy under the control of a manual actuator. A preset encoder encodes the radio-frequency energy with an interrogation code to produce an interrogation signal that is radiated by an antenna. The transponder has an receiver for receiving the interrogation signal and separating it into received radio-frequency energy and a coded signal. A decoder decodes the coded signal and looks for a match between the coded signal and the interrogation code. A response transmitter, which is controlled by the decoder, encodes the received radio-frequency energy with the response code and radiates the response signal. When a receiver in the interrogator receives the response signal, the response signal is decoded and analyzed for a proper response. A response indicator is energized when a proper response is received.

A tunneling system is disclosed that includes a surface power-controller, umbilical tether, robotic tender, and robotic tunneling device. This system allows the robotic tunneling device to efficiently create new tunnels using the power and fluids provided from the surface through the robotic drilling tender, as well as a way to efficiently manage cuttings below surface. The system is designed to operate not only when the well is not producing, but also on a continuous basis while the well is producing.

Abstract:
Proppant used to keep open a fissure in a reservoir created by hydraulic or other action is disclosed. The proppant demonstrates a reduced specific gravity controlled by the geometry of the structure of the proppant. Proppant must be capable of withstanding the hydrostatic environment of the hydraulic pumping system, pass through a perforation in the casing of the well, travel into the fissure, and, upon reduction of hydrostatic pressure, withstand the closure pressure of the formation. A proppant having neutral buoyancy or substantial neutral buoyancy yet capable of withstanding the hydraulic and closure pressures is described that has a tubular structure hollow in the center with a wall of material sufficiently strong to withstand the majority of closure pressures.
