Philosophy:
My Approach to Treating Patients
Dr. Straus practices general orthopaedics but has a specific interest in disorders of the foot and ankle. He has received extensive training in treating athletic injuries of the lower extremity throughout game coverage of the Houston Rockets NBA team and currently serving as Assistant Team Physician for the Dallas Mavericks NBA team. He has additional interest in arthritic conditions, traumatic injuries, and ligament / tendon disorders.
Dr.Straus prefers a nonoperative approach to the management of orthopaedic problems when possible. He believes that a variety of interventions can often be performed to alleviate a patient's symptoms prior to the consideration of surgery. If the symptoms do not improve to an acceptable level following an adequate course of nonoperative measures, then Dr. Straus will discuss the benefits as well as the potential risks of surgery with the patient. The operative plan as well as the expected postoperative course will be discussed thoroughly with the patient prior to any planned operation.
