Welcome to the office of Brian Babiak M.D., Psychiatrist in Ithaca, New York. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in the treatment of illnesses such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia, to name a few. Psychiatrists can also be helpful in reducing symptoms of panic attacks, resolving difficulty with attention and focus (ADHD), and correcting sleep disturbances. In addition to providing modern medical care in an attractive setting, I also remember at all times to treat the patient with respect, explaining treatment choices clearly and fully and being available to answer all questions or address any needs (such as prescription refills or mental health related paperwork) promptly. It takes a great deal of courage to admit that one is suffering from a mental illness and then to seek treatment for that condition. In appreciation of that, I remember that a disease does not define a whole person and therefore listen to all of a person’s thoughts and feelings about their condition and life situation attentively in order to do what is in his or her very best interests. I believe that listening, respect and availability are what set this practice apart from others.
