SKILLED IN THE FOLLOWING: Medical & Surgical Procedures Assist in all types of medical treatments (and with restraints), ranging from office examinations to critical care and emergency situations. Set up all equipment and prep animal for surgery: shaving, intubation, inserting IV catheters, and administer intravenous/intramuscular drugs. Assist with surgeries, including exploratory, cystotomy, GVD, cesarean sections, and other procedures. Prepare and sterilize surgery packs in an autoclave; monitor anesthesia and patients vital signs. Accurately document anesthetic drugs during surgery; handle post surgery recovery: extubation, patient monitoring, and speaking with clients to provide follow up/status reports. Prepare discharge instructions; refill/dispense medications; administer medications while educating the client. Monitor critical cases requiring ICU care: oxygen therapy, nebulization and blood transfusions. Able to utilize blood pressure, ECG, and SpO2 monitors. Proficient in small animal CPR. Tests/Lab Work/ Client Education Draw blood including jugular samples. Conduct CBC/Chemistry analysis, Coagulation tests, Blood glucose, Lactate, Heartworm, Feline leukemia, FIV tests, among others. Read results from urinalysis, fecal samples and blood smears. Perform and develop radiographs as required. Educate clients on diseases/preventative care, home care (post surgery, diabetic discharges and medications), diet, basic husbandry, and other aspects of animal health care. Front Office/Administration Cross-trained to perform front office duties, including answering the phone, invoicing/cashing out, providing estimates, and more. Greet clients, triage, and set up patients in exam rooms. Utilize customized computer applications to process payments and enter patient records. Serve as a resource to new technicians by answering questions on equipment, office and other procedures.
