Philosophy:
I am a urologist who specializes in laparoscopic surgery, particularly for the treatment of prostate cancer.
My experience in laparoscopic surgery began in the early 1990s in France, initially at the University of Nantes, and then at the Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris, where surgeons pioneered and perfected this method of treating localized prostate cancers. In 2002, I joined the Urology Service at MSKCC to create and lead the Section of Minimally Invasive Surgery. In this position, I am devoted to developing a strong program for the education and training of surgeons in new minimally invasive therapies for uro-oncology (currently our focus is on prostate, kidney and testis cancers). We also are using and exploring innovative surgical techniques, including assisted robotic laparoscopy and image-guided therapies.
My clinical research is focused on the pathology and treatment of localized prostate cancer. My published papers describe this research and surgical experience, including findings on the use of robotics in surgery and on the effectiveness of laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (surgery to remove the prostate) to control cancer and preserve urinary and sexual function.
I am an editor for European Urology, and an assistant editor for the Journal of EndoUrology, and I serve on the advisory board of Nature Clinical Practice Urology.
