Bernard A. Eskin - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
A01N 5922, A61K 3336
US Classification:
424667
Abstract:
This invention relates to a composition for use in the treatment of iodine deficiency diseases such as fibrocystic dysplasia of the breast, breast cancer, endometriosis and premenstrual syndrome. The composition may also be used for the prophylaxis of breast cancer. More particularly, this invention relates to a composition for She treatment of iodine deficiency diseases, the composition comprising a solution of elemental iodine (I. sub. 2) which may also be referred to as metallic iodine or iodine metal. William R. Ghent - Kingston, Ontario, CA
Bernard A. Eskin - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
A61K 3318
US Classification:

Treatment Of Iodine Deficiency Diseases

US Patent:
5910318, Jun 8, 1999
Filed:
Jan 29, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/593467
Inventors:
William R. Ghent - late of Kingston, CA
Bernard A. Eskin - Philadelphia PA
Assignee:
943038 Ontario Inc. - Ontario
International Classification:
A61K 3318
US Classification:
424451
Abstract:
The present invention is concerned with the use of starch containing amylose as a complexant with iodine for preparing dry powder pharmaceutical formulations useful in the preparation of capsules or tablets. The helical structure of the amylose molecule and its ability to complex with smaller molecules including iodine make starch (amylose) a desirable vehicle for the administration of iodine (I. sub. 2) as a dry powder formulation in capsule or tablet form. These pharmaceutical formulations are particularly useful in the treatment of or the prevention of iodine deficiency diseases including breast dysplasia, breast cancer, endometriosis, premenstrual syndrome, ovarian cysts and radiation sickness from nuclear fallout.
