DR. BENJAMIN SCHROCK ALDERFER, M.D.

Dr. Alderfer practices adult, geriatric, and neuropsychiatry and is the medical director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Unit at Porter Adventist Hospital. He provides inpatient and outpatient ECT evaluations and treatments at Porter. He also has an outpatient practice at the Centre for Behavioral Health. Prior to working at Porter, he spent three years at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Fort Logan, where he was the director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Unit and the ECT program. Dr. Alderfer believes that the goal of treatment is to maximize a person?s functioning and quality of life. When evaluating and treating a person, it is essential to consider all parts of the individual in order to help him or her the most. Issues that are of particular importance to consider in older adults include frequent coexisting and complicating medical problems, drug-drug interactions, cognitive functioning, and grief and loss. Dr. Alderfer strives to consider all of these things while working with families, outpatient providers, and a multidisciplinary team to return a person back to his or her active and full life.
