Thermal Balloon Angioplasty With Thermoplastic Stent

Thermal Balloon Angioplasty With Thermoplastic Stent

US Patent:
5292321, Mar 8, 1994
Filed:
Mar 1, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/025415
Inventors:
Benjamin I. Lee - Washington DC
International Classification:
A61B 1736
US Classification:
606 28
Abstract:
A method is provided for remodeling a body lumen, such as a coronary artery, having a stenosis using a thermoplastic stent including the steps of increasing the temperature of the thermoplastic stent, body lumen and stenosis at the region of the stenosis for a time period and to a temperature level sufficient to cause a change in the stent, stenosis and body lumen region from a relatively solid state into a softer and more moldable state and thereafter expanding the stenosis and the body lumen region while in the softer and more moldable state to thus reduce the tendency to fracture during expansion while enabling the stent to contact an inner surface of a wall of the body lumen, and reducing the temperature of the thermoplastic stent, stenosis and body lumen region while maintaining the expansion for a time period and to a temperature level sufficient to re-establish the relatively solid state thereof so that the thermoplastic tent molds against the surface of the inner surface of the wall of the body lumen to maintain the stenosis and body lumen region in the expanded condition. An improved heat applying balloon catheter is provided including passages for displacing the heated balloon inflating liquid with a cooling liquid to carry out the method.

Method And Device For Percutaneous Sealing Of Internal Puncture Sites

Method And Device For Percutaneous Sealing Of Internal Puncture Sites

US Patent:
6033427, Mar 7, 2000
Filed:
Jan 7, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/226717
Inventors:
Benjamin I. Lee - Washington DC
International Classification:
A61B 1700
US Classification:
606213
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a device for percutaneously sealing of an internal puncture site comprising a tissue portion having a puncture formed therethrough. A locating device is mounted for longitudinal movement relative to a guide wire towards and away from the puncture site. Delivery structure has a distal end portion and is mounted for longitudinal movement relative to the guide wire. A tubular puncture site engaging member has a distal end portion and is mounted exteriorly of the delivery structure for longitudinal movement relative to the guide wire. A supply of fluid thrombogenic material which will be capable of promoting clotting when delivered to the puncture site is provided. The delivery structure has a fluid passageway open to the distal end portion thereof and communicated to the supply of fluid thrombogenic material. The locating device and the puncture site engaging member are positioned with respect to one another such that they can be moved together towards the puncture site.

Methods And Device For Percutaneous Sealing Of Arterial Puncture Sites

Methods And Device For Percutaneous Sealing Of Arterial Puncture Sites

US Patent:
5443481, Aug 22, 1995
Filed:
Apr 5, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/041573
Inventors:
Benjamin I. Lee - Washington DC
International Classification:
A61B 1704, A61M 2900, A61M 3900
US Classification:
606213
Abstract:
A method is provided for closing a puncture in a wall of an artery made for the purpose of moving an elongated cardiovascular catheter into the artery. The method includes the steps of withdrawing the cardiovascular catheter from the artery while ensuring that the location of the puncture remains identified, and introducing a thrombogenic, hemostatic material so as to contact the wall of the artery at the puncture location, enabling the material to precipitate clot formation and seal the puncture. A device is also provided to employ the method.
