Method And Apparatus For Slitting Steel Slabs

US Patent:
7378051, May 27, 2008
Filed:
Sep 27, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/950704
Inventors:
Barry J. Alexin - Monroe MI, US
Assignee:
Edw. C. Levy Co. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B23K 7/10
US Classification:
266 61, 266 48
Abstract:
A cutting table assembly for oxy cutting comprising a cutting table having a slab loading face and mounted for pivotal movement between a loading position in which the loading face is generally horizontal and a cutting position in which the face is oblique, and a pair of torches mounted on the table. The loading face is constituted by a pair of loading subfaces separated by a slot and the torches are mounted in the slot below the loading face. The torches are positioned at opposite ends of the slot prior to the initiation of the cutting action and, upon the initiation of the cutting action, move toward each other and cut into opposite ends of the slab. A pair of gantries are mounted on the table and each carries a deburring device positioned in overlying opposition to a respective torch. Each gantry further includes a plurality of spaced downwardly directed nozzles which are supplied with compressed air to generate an air curtain.

Method, System And Process For Preparing A Recyclable Material

US Patent:
2008023, Sep 25, 2008
Filed:
Mar 21, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/689058
Inventors:
Barry J. Alexin - Monroe MI, US
Thomas A. Smith - Westland MI, US
Assignee:
Edw. C. Levy Co. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B60P 1/04, H05B 7/18
US Classification:
373 60, 414467
Abstract:
A method for preparing material comprising the steps of providing a transport vehicle including a horizontal ejector and a basin that defines an opening, wherein the horizontal ejector is coupled to the material within the basin; loading a first material into the basin proximate the horizontal ejector; loading a second material into the basin proximate the opening; actuating the horizontal ejector for movement from a retracted position toward a deployed position; and horizontally ejecting the second material through the opening and then subsequently horizontally ejecting the first material through the opening. A system is also disclosed.

Slab Handling Apparatus

US Patent:
2005006, Mar 31, 2005
Filed:
Sep 27, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/950705
Inventors:
Barry Alexin - Monroe MI, US
Assignee:
EDW. C. LEVY CO. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B22D011/126
US Classification:
164263000, 164460000
Abstract:
A slab handling apparatus comprising a foundation structure, a plurality of longitudinally spaced buffer members positioned on the foundation structure, and a plurality of longitudinally spaced roller assemblies connected to the respective buffer members with a lost motion connection. The lost motion connections allow relative movement between the buffer members and the roller assemblies between a slab loading position in which the buffer members are supported on the foundation structure with upper edges thereof above the roller assemblies, whereby to allow the loading of a slab onto the upper edges without damage to the roller assemblies, and a slab slitting position in which the roller assemblies are above the upper edges of the buffer members, whereby to allow the roller assemblies to rollably support the slab to facilitate selective longitudinal adjustment of the slab to accommodate the slab slitting operation.
