International Classification:
A61B 17/34
US Classification:
60416601
Abstract:
An apparatus for assisting in a vascular procedure includes an obturator that interfaces with a surface of tissue, the obturator including a shaft and a groove that can guide one or more tips of a medical device into a targeted region. In more specific embodiments, the targeted region is an aortic hole. The obturator can include a knob that stabilizes the medical device laterally on a surface of the targeted region. The obturator can also include a flange element that extends beyond the knob onto an outside surface of the targeted region. The knob can include a chamfer feature that can provide room for the tips of the medical device to enter the targeted region at an angle without bumping into the knob. In still other embodiments, the tips are sharp needle tips of the medical device and the groove is a V-shaped groove.

System And Method For Measuring A Vessel In A Vascular Environment

US Patent:
2012027, Oct 25, 2012
Filed:
Jul 3, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/541290
Inventors:
Baron L. Hamman - Dallas TX, US
William E. Cohn - Bellaire TX, US
Devin S. Dobie - Saint Paul MN, US
Kirk S. Honour - Shorewood MN, US
Dana Ray Mester - Oakdale MN, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/34
US Classification:
606186
Abstract:
An apparatus is provided in one example embodiment including a body section including inner and outer edges with the inner edge surrounding at least a portion of an open area. The body section further includes a lower surface extending between the inner and outer edges, and a handle adjacent to the lower surface. The apparatus also comprises a plurality of arms that include opposing tips and proximal ends received in the body section. The opposing tips define a tip spacing therebetween, and the arms are configured to extend and retract to decrease and increase, respectively, a dimension of the tip spacing. In more specific embodiments, the lower surface of the apparatus includes size markers, and each size marker corresponds to a dimension of the tip spacing when the handle is aligned with the size marker.

System, Device, And Method For Providing Access In A Cardiovascular Environment

US Patent:
2006017, Aug 10, 2006
Filed:
Feb 3, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/347542
Inventors:
Baron Hamman - Dallas TX, US
International Classification:
A61F 11/00
US Classification:
606108000
Abstract:
A device to be used in a cardiovascular environment, comprising an expandable element that is coupled to a rod and that includes a compressed state and an expanded state. The expandable element is operable to be positioned within a wall of an organ while the expandable element is in the compressed state. The expandable element is further operable to be deployed once it is within the organ such that it is in the expanded state. The device further includes a cutter element operable to make a circular incision at the wall of the organ. The expandable element creates a resistive force when it is pulled against the wall while in the expanded state such that an interface is created for making the incision. The device includes a stop-grip mechanism that maintains the resistive force at the interface. One embodiment features the expandable element being umbrella shaped.

System And Method For Moving Large Objects

US Patent:
8475108, Jul 2, 2013
Filed:
Oct 15, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/252240
Inventors:
Baron L. Hamman - Dallas TX, US
Assignee:
Castlewood Medical Technologies LLC - Dallas TX
International Classification:
B60B 29/00
US Classification:
414428, 414430, 414463, 280 62
Abstract:
A system for moving a large object is provided that includes one or more wheels in contact with a ground surface and two pedals coupled to at least one wheel such that a downward force on at least one of the pedals by an operator seated on the system causes the wheels to move in a forward direction. The system further includes a gearing element that includes a gearbox that translates the downward force to the wheels. The system also includes a loading element that receives at least a portion of the large object such that it can be transported when the wheels move in the forward direction, where the large object weighs at least 300 pounds. In more specific embodiments, the system includes a steering component that includes one of the wheels, where the steering component allows a direction of the system to be guided by the operator.
