AURELIEN TSEMO OF BOOTH HANSEN RECEIVES AIA ILLINOIS 2013 ALAN MADISON AWARD Chicago, IL – Aurelien Tsemo, AIA, NOMA, NCARB, an Associate Principal at Booth Hansen, is the 2013 recipient of the Alan Madison Award from AIA Illinois. “Aurelien Tsemo exemplifies the principles, ethics and highest standards of the architectural profession and the legacy of Alan Madison,” said Brandy Koch, 2013 AIA Illinois President, who convened the national jury and served as an ex officio member. The Alan Madison Award recognizes a minority architect or architectural intern for demonstrated leadership ability and for promoting diversity within the profession. In 2005, the AIA Illinois Board established a fellowship to honor Alan Madison, AIA, who passed away at far too early an age after serving in leadership positions in the National Organization of Minority Architects, AIA Chicago, AIA Illinois, and the Illinois Architectural Licensing Board. Alan was a pioneer, a role model to minority architects, a leader, a mentor, and a true citizen architect. In presenting Tsemo with the award, AIA Illinois said: Aurelien has shown tireless dedication to the art and technology of creating built environments. His building projects consistently demonstrate excellence in both design and construction. They celebrate the simple beauty of space. A consummate professional, he brings a high level of integrity to every project. Aurelien volunteers his time without hesitation, all while tending to his responsibilities and obligations both inside and outside the office. His service to the profession continues to be stellar, as he consistently works with dedication and embraces opportunities to encourage and mentor. In accepting the award, Tsemo told the audience, “Alan Madison was a tremendous mentor to all of us University of Illinois Chicago students who were coming to the United States for the first time. I am humbled and honored to receive this award.”
