Multifocal Contact Lens And Method Of Making The Same

Multifocal Contact Lens And Method Of Making The Same

US Patent:
6709102, Mar 23, 2004
Filed:
Jan 16, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/761384
Inventors:
Arthur G. Duppstadt - Leechburg PA 15656
International Classification:
G02C 704
US Classification:
351161, 351160 R
Abstract:
A multifocal contact lens structured to provide simultaneous distant and near vision includes a transparent lens body having an inner concave surface and an outer convex surface. The lens body has an aspherical central portion structured to provide distant vision and an adjacent annular spherical portion structured to provide near vision. The aspherical central portion, and annular spherical portion may be provided on the inner surface of the lens. In an alternate embodiment, a spherical central near vision portion and an annular aspheric distance vision portion may be employed. The spherical and aspherical portions merge in a gradual manner to avoid undesired liner of demarcation therebetween. A method of manufacturing a multifocal contact lens structured to provide simultaneous near and distant vision may include providing a contact lens blank having an outer surface and an inner surface and creating a generally spherical configuration in the inner surface, converting a center portion of the spherical concave inner surface into an aspherical configuration, and creating a generally spherical convex annular configuration in the outer surface. The method may be modified to provide the alternate embodiment.

Alignment Apparatus For An Eyeglass Hinge Assembly And Method Employing Same

Alignment Apparatus For An Eyeglass Hinge Assembly And Method Employing Same

US Patent:
6659606, Dec 9, 2003
Filed:
Mar 12, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/387033
Inventors:
Arthur G. Duppstadt - Leechburg PA 15656
International Classification:
G02C 522
US Classification:
351153, 351158, 16228
Abstract:
An alignment apparatus establishes alignment of an eyeglass hinge assembly. The eyeglass hinge assembly includes an attachment member attachable to an eyeglass frame, a first hinge element secured to a temple member, a second hinge element secured to the attachment member, and a hinge spring disposed between the temple member and the first hinge element to permit flexion of the temple member. The hinge spring movably attaches a single, central hinge ring to the temple member. The alignment apparatus secures a temple member in a clamp having opposing first and second clamp elements. Adjustable extending means on a rotating arm secured to the second clamp element extends to engage and displace the single, central hinge ring to deform the hinge spring establishing alignment with a pair of spaced-apart, opposing hinge rings on the second hinge element. An associated method is provided.

Polishing Tool For Contact Lenses And Associated Method

Polishing Tool For Contact Lenses And Associated Method

US Patent:
4979337, Dec 25, 1990
Filed:
Oct 3, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/914872
Inventors:
Arthur G. Duppstadt - Leechburg PA
International Classification:
B23F 2133
US Classification:
51209R
Abstract:
A polishing tool for contact lenses and an associated method is provided. The polishing tool is comprised of a base, an exteriorly convex resilient polishing head, and a polishing cloth. The polishing head is made of a suitable resilient material, said material allowing the polishing head to better conform to the interior portion of the contact lens. The method of the present invention involves connecting the polishing tool to a rotatable shaft and exposing the rotating polishing head to the interior of the contact lens. The polishing head can be adapted, in another embodiment, to polish the edges and the outside and peripheral bevels of a contact lens.
