Filed:
Dec 12, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/954887
Inventors:
Kirk C. Harmon - San Ramon CA, US
Anthony P. Furnary - Portland OR, US
William Yu - Mountain View CA, US
Stanley Telson - Lancaster PA, US
Paul Hausman - San Ramon CA, US
Assignee:
LIFESCAN, INC. - Milpitas CA
International Classification:
A61B 5/00, G09B 23/28
US Classification:
600365, 600316, 600322, 434262
Abstract:
A system for implementing a wide-range of glycemic control protocols (e.g., Tight Glycemic Control protocols) in an automated, semi-closed or closed loop manner thereby eliminating common sources of system error is provided herein. More specifically, the system can include a blood glucose measuring device in communication with a wide-range of databases and/or interfaces thereby allowing for typically independent steps such as patient testing, result determination, protocol adjustment (suggestions as well as actual calculations of new dosages), meal information, scheduling of future testing in light of test results, and administration of medicine to be performed automatically in a semi-closed or closed loop manner. Furthermore, the system provides for ultimate flexibility by allowing a protocol administrator to continuously add, subtract, and/or modify various steps of the protocol while maintaining the integrity and safety of the system. Additionally, methods of implementing such glucose control protocols are also provided herein.

Device For Use In Temporary Insertion Of A Sensor Within A Patient's Body

US Patent:
5775328, Jul 7, 1998
Filed:
Jun 26, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/672484
Inventors:
Robert I. Lowe - Portland OR
Anthony P. Furnary - Portland OR
International Classification:
A61B 800
US Classification:
12866206
Abstract:
A device for use in placing a non-sterile sensor probe such as an ultrasound scanning transducer in a desired position within a patient's body, with a probe-receiving tube having a closed distal end so that a probe inserted within the tube through an open proximal end located outside the patient's body is isolated from contact with or contamination of the interior of the patient's body. The probe-receiving tube is attached to and extends alongside an elongate support member which aids in placement of the probe-receiving tube in a location proximate an organ to be observed by use of a sensor probe in the probe-receiving tube. The elongate support tube may be a chest drain tube.

Method For Monitoring Blood Characteristics And Cardiopulmonary Function

US Patent:
2004022, Nov 4, 2004
Filed:
Feb 3, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/357539
Inventors:
Robert Lowe - Portland OR, US
Anthony Furnary - Portland OR, US
International Classification:
A61B005/00
US Classification:
600/300000
Abstract:
Sensors located on a sensor carrier are placed adjacent one or more of a surgical patient's major thoracic blood-containing structures such as the aorta or pulmonary artery, and characteristics of blood in the blood-containing structures are determined noninvasively by measuring transmission or reflection of light or other types of energy by the blood. Emitters and receptors included in the sensors are connected electrically with suitable electronic signal generating and processing components in a package remote from the sensor carrier.
