Graphical Undo/Redo Manager And Method

US Patent:
6111575, Aug 29, 2000
Filed:
Sep 24, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/160060
Inventors:
Anthony Edward Martinez - Austin TX
Michael David Rahn - Rochester MN
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 1300
US Classification:
345352
Abstract:
A graphical undo/redo manager provides a graphical indication of multiple tasks that were recently performed. A user may undo multiple tasks in one step by selecting a task the user wishes to revert to, and the graphical undo/redo manager then undoes all the commands that were done subsequent to the selected task, taking the computer program to a desired state in only one user operation. In similar fashion, a user may redo multiple tasks in one step by clicking on a selected subsequent task (that was previously undone) that the user wishes to go forward to, and the graphical undo/redo manager then redoes all the commands between the last undo and the selected task, including the selected task. In addition, the graphical undo/redo manager provides for collapsing multiple tasks into a marker, either automatically when certain commands are executed in the computer program or upon command by a user for future reference.

Abstract:
A method and implementing computer system is provided in which a user program-linking interface is presented on a computer screen to enable a user to select an input or source program, as well as one of several available functional operators. The linking program is effective to receive data from the input program, perform a selected functional operation on the data as may be selected by a user, and deliver the resulting information in a manner chosen by the user. In one exemplary embodiment, the resulting information is delivered to a selected output or target program which may be coupled to the linking program. In another example, the linking program is effective to provide a display window to show the results of the functional operation performed on the source program as selected by the user.

Spotlight Cursor

US Patent:
7509592, Mar 24, 2009
Filed:
Sep 7, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/657116
Inventors:
Anthony Edward Martinez - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 3/048
US Classification:
715862
Abstract:
An apparatus and method is disclosed for displaying a secondary layer of information in a graphical user interface where the second layer of information is revealed when a point on the circumference defined by radius “r” originating at the x,y coordinates of the cursor covers a point in a secondary content of the second layer. The circumference may be set to trigger appearance of secondary content gradually, all at once or to trigger the appearance of all secondary content in a predefined zone.

Method For Reanchoring Branches Within A Directory Tree

US Patent:
6271846, Aug 7, 2001
Filed:
Sep 30, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/163919
Inventors:
Anthony Edward Martinez - Austin TX
Michael David Rahn - Rochester MN
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 300
US Classification:
345357
Abstract:
A system and method for reanchoring logical objects or members of a directory tree within a graphical user interface. First, at least one anchored logical object is designated for reanchoring. Logical objects which have a predetermined relationship with the selected logical object may be placed into a group with the at least one designated logical object. Next, the user selects a reanchor command and the selected group is reanchored. In an illustrative implementation, reanchoring moves the selected group to a location closer to a left margin of the display screen. Reanchoring allows a user to customize the directory tree. Customizing the graphic directory tree allows a user to increase the usability of the directory tree and decrease complexity of existing directory trees.

Method And Apparatus For Creating "Smart Forms "

US Patent:
5953523, Sep 14, 1999
Filed:
Oct 28, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/736845
Inventors:
Sarka J. Martinez - Austin TX
Brigitte Anschuetz - Spicewood TX
Anthony E. Martinez - Austin TX
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 944
US Classification:
395701
Abstract:
An architecture is provided for user applications in a computer system including a core application executable by the system and having a data entry space. A field overlay executable by the system, although not necessarily independently executable, stacks functions on top of the core application and imposes a structure on the data entry space to become an extension of the core application, thus creating additional user applications driven by task needs. If implemented in an object-oriented manner, the field overlay inherits attributes of the core application. Links and macros within the field overlays may improve the effectiveness of the core application in accomplishing the desired task.
