Body Fluid Containment Bag

US Patent:
5647670, Jul 15, 1997
Filed:
Apr 13, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/227248
Inventors:
Angel Iscovich - Santa Barbara CA
International Classification:
B65D 3302, B65D 3325
US Classification:
383 33
Abstract:
A containment system is described which is useful for the containment of bodily fluids, such as emesis or urine. The fluid containment system is a flexible polymeric bag, preferably polyethylene, of unitary construction having a closed end and a large, normally open, reinforced, "fish mouth" open end through which fluid is introduced into the bag, the reinforced open end having a press and seal closure mechanism. In one embodiment, a strap secures the bag, which is normally in the open or receiving position, around the neck of a person. In another embodiment, straps secure the bag to a belt or belt loops for the collection of urine. In operation, the bag is affixed to the body with a strap which is attached to the (normally open) end of the bag. If the bag is to be used for the collection of emesis, the strap is hung around the neck and dimensioned to position the bag below the chin. The open end of the bag is normally open to receive fluids.

Anchoring Device For Medical Tubing

US Patent:
5395343, Mar 7, 1995
Filed:
Oct 21, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/139947
Inventors:
Angel Iscovich - Santa Barbara CA
International Classification:
A61M 532
US Classification:
604179
Abstract:
A tube securing device is described which is useful for fixing the position of a medical tubing, such as a thoracostomy tube, with respect to the skin of a patient. The anchoring device comprises a unitary strap resembling a cable tie having a free end, a body portion and a buckle end. The buckle end has two or more unidirectional locking mechanism thereon for enabling movement of the body portion of the strap in only one direction. In operation, the body portion of the device is wrapped around the invasive medical tubing at the point where it enters the skin and the free end of the strap is passed through the first unidirectional locking mechanism on the buckle portion to form a first loop which encircles and grasps the tubing. The loop may be taped to the body to secure the tubing in position. A special release loop is provided that enables removal of the anchoring device from the tubing without damaging the tubing.
