Method And Apparatus For Controlling Blood Volume An Hydration And For Indicating Resuscitation Status Of A Patient Using Peripheral Venous Pressure As A Hemodynamic Parameter

Method And Apparatus For Controlling Blood Volume An Hydration And For Indicating Resuscitation Status Of A Patient Using Peripheral Venous Pressure As A Hemodynamic Parameter

US Patent:
2003000, Jan 2, 2003
Filed:
Jun 27, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/892820
Inventors:
James Munis - Novelty OH, US
Leonardo Lozada - Shaker Heights OH, US
Andrew Zura - Broadview Heights OH, US
Assignee:
The Cleveland Clinic Foundation
International Classification:
A61M031/00
US Classification:
604/503000
Abstract:
An apparatus for controlling fluid volume in a patient includes a fluid source () and a fluid conduit () for carrying fluid from the fluid source to the patient (). A controllable infusion pump () pumps fluid from the fluid source to a peripheral vein of the patient through the fluid conduit. An occluder () for blocks fluid communication between the fluid source and the patient through the fluid conduit. A fluid pressure sensor () periodically senses fluid pressure in the fluid conduit. The apparatus further includes a controller () for determining a peripheral venous pressure value from the sensed fluid pressure in the fluid conduit after the infusion pump is stopped and the occluder blocks the fluid communication between the fluid source and the patient through the fluid conduit. The peripheral venous pressure is indicative of the patient's means systemic pressure and the fluid volume of the patient.

Endoscopic Sheath Assembly

Endoscopic Sheath Assembly

US Patent:
2012014, Jun 7, 2012
Filed:
Oct 14, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/273918
Inventors:
Rafi Avitsian - Solon OH, US
Andrew M. Zura - Broadview Heights OH, US
Robert B. Guthrie - Ventura CA, US
Douglas W. Haight - Camarillo CA, US
James T. Callegari - Ventura CA, US
Michael Collinson - Camarillo CA, US
International Classification:
A61B 1/00
US Classification:
600121
Abstract:
A sheath assembly for an endoscope includes an elongate tubular body and a plug. The endoscope has a handle portion and a scope portion extending therefrom to a tip. The body includes first and second wall sections and extends along a longitudinal axis between first and second distal openings located at distal and proximal ends thereof, respectively. The first wall section extends radially about the longitudinal axis to define a scope lumen. The scope portion is receivable in the scope lumen with the distal and proximal ends. The second wall section extends radially about a portion of the first wall section and longitudinally between second distal and proximal end openings. The first and second wall sections define an integral suction lumen in fluid communication with a first source of negative pressure. The plug is mated with the distal end opening and includes a lens surface through which energy is transmissible.

Medical Device Sheath

Medical Device Sheath

US Patent:
2012015, Jun 21, 2012
Filed:
Mar 25, 2010
Appl. No.:
13/257529
Inventors:
Rafi Avitsian - Solon OH, US
Andrew M. Zura - Broadview Heights OH, US
International Classification:
A61B 1/00
US Classification:
600125
Abstract:
A medical device sheath that includes a relatively inelastic body having a proximal end longitudinally separated from a distal end and defining a first lumen, an aperture located at the proximal end in fluid communication with the lumen and configured to admit an elongate endoscope body into the first lumen, and a transparent tip located longitudinally adjacent to an endoscope lens when the elongate endoscope body is located within the first lumen. The endoscope sheath may also include an elongate secondary tube defining a secondary lumen. A method of using the medical device sheath is also described.
