Method And System For Calling Card Validation Hubbing

US Patent:
5825857, Oct 20, 1998
Filed:
Sep 13, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/527560
Inventors:
Luis Reto - Plano TX
Don Turner - Plano TX
Timothy Darland - Cedar Rapids IA
Anis Khalil - Plano TX
Cory Lenger - East Moline IL
Amyn Merchant - Plano TX
Assignee:
MCI Communications Corporation - Washington DC
International Classification:
H04M 1500
US Classification:
379114
Abstract:
Method and system for calling card validation hubbing provides a hubbed architecture for communicating validation messages relating to a calling card number to be validated between a telecommunications network which accepts a calling card call and the telecommunications network which issued the card. The hubbing system provides transport links and protocol translation between ANSI SS7, ITU CCS7 and X. 25 for each telecommunications network which is attached. When an attached telecommunications network accepts a calling card call, an authorization request including calling card number is sent to the hubbing system, translated to the protocol used by the card issuing network and transported to the card issuing network for validation. Also communicated are request responses, which indicate success or failure of validation, and call disposition messages, which provide a timely estimate of call duration and charges.

Reverse Call Origination Via A Packet Switched Network

US Patent:
6853636, Feb 8, 2005
Filed:
Nov 17, 1995
Appl. No.:
08/560051
Inventors:
Amyn Merchant - Plano TX, US
Assignee:
MCI Communications Corporation - Washington DC
International Classification:
H04L012/66, H04M003/42
US Classification:
370352, 37921001
Abstract:
A telephone call is originated in a reverse direction, i. e. , from a called party to a calling party, using a packet switched network. According to one embodiment of the invention, a calling party located in a first country may wish to place a call to a party in a second country having cheaper telephone rates. To benefit from the cheaper telephone rates of the second country, the calling party sends a data message—via a packet switched network—to a service provider in the second country requesting reverse call origination. The request message may be sent to an electronic mailbox maintained by the service provider and located on a global computer network, such as the Internet. The service provider of the second country, upon receiving the message, dials the destination number of the called party supplied in the request message. After reaching the called party, the service provider of the second country dials the calling party and bridges the call between the two parties. The calls thus originate from and are billed at the lower telephone rates of the second country.

Reverse Call Origination Via A Non-Signaling Network

US Patent:
2005003, Feb 17, 2005
Filed:
Sep 29, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/953022
Inventors:
Amyn Merchant - Plano TX, US
Assignee:
MCI Communications Corporation - Washington DC
International Classification:
H04M001/64, H04M015/00
US Classification:
379114010, 379114030, 379088010
Abstract:
An approach is provided for originating a telephone call from a country with low telephone rates to a country with high telephone rates using a non-signaling network, such as a global computer network. This can be accomplished without additional specialized telephone equipment or any modifications to switches and databases in either country. Also, the telephone call can be established without any manipulations of signaling information transmitted by a carrier in the high traffic country. Such an approach provides flexible allocation of charges for originating a telephone call from a country with low telephone rates to a country with high telephone rates.
