Physicians know that many diseases do not show symptoms until they have reached an advanced stage. For example, heart disease may first present with hypertension or diabetes may be found in someone who is overweight. In my practice, I work hard to help my patients modify any risk factors that can be changed. I focus on the whole patient and not the problem and encourage each patient to exercise, eat a healthy diet, and stop smoking.
