Apparatus For Ultrasonic Cleaning Of Carpet, Upholstery, And Similar Materials

US Patent:
4103519, Aug 1, 1978
Filed:
Mar 18, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/779189
Inventors:
Amber Charles Davidson - Salt Lake City UT
International Classification:
D06F 1900, B08B 312
US Classification:
68 3SS
Abstract:
A cleaning head is adapted to rest on and be moved over the material to be cleaned. The cleaning head has a central chamber, open at its bottom, and at least one relatively narrow chamber, open at its bottom, peripherally surrounding the central chamber. Ultrasonic transducer means are provided in the central chamber and means are provided for supplying a cleaning solution to the central chamber and for maintaining the level of the solution in the chamber such that at least a portion of the transducer means is immersed in the solution so that vibrations of the transducer means are imparted to the solution. Means are provided for adjusting, i. e. controlling, the pressure of the cleaning solution in the central chamber and the pressure in the at least one peripheral chamber to substantially eliminate the flow of air into the solution in the central chamber and to prevent escape of substantial amounts of solution from the cleaning head.

Ultrasonic Distance Measuring Instrument

US Patent:
5163323, Nov 17, 1992
Filed:
Jan 18, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/466757
Inventors:
Amber Davidson - Salt Lake City UT
Assignee:
Ezra C. Lundahl, Inc. - Logan UT
International Classification:
G01F 2328, G01S 1502
US Classification:
73290V
Abstract:
A non-contact type ultrasonic distance measuring device that includes a micro processor for controlling operation of a transducer that functions as both a sonic transmitter and receiver. Micro processor programming provides a control scheme whereby an operator can program different modes of operation into the instrument by depressing buttons arranged on a rear display panel of the instrument. Mode programming is accomplished in a manner similar to setting a digital watch, with the modes displayed in a display window. The mode programming and component operation provide a gate scheme where gate control is provided through application of gain control through three (3) amplifiers, one of which is a fourth order bandpass filter that is operated by the micro processor to provide a controlled increase in gain or "Q" as the elapsed time from a transmission becomes greater. The program self-adjusts during operation to sense the distances to close targets and to targets as far away as seventy (70) feet and can provide an accurate identification of a target through clutter as may exist in some instrument applications. Pulsing control is also provided for in the mode programming, whereby, after a single pulse is sent, the instrument will not send a next pulse until the expiration of a set time period.

Gas-Liquid-Solids Separation System

US Patent:
4484643, Nov 27, 1984
Filed:
Jun 27, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/507862
Inventors:
Anil Mahyera - Salt Lake City UT
Carel J. H. Brest Van Kempen - Salt Lake City UT
Robert M. Sweet - Riverton UT
Amber C. Davidson - Salt Lake City UT
Assignee:
Methane Drainage Ventures - Placentia CA
International Classification:
E21B 2106
US Classification:
175206
Abstract:
A gas-liquid-solids separation system for use with a drilling device includes a surge tank for holding drilling efflux comprising gas, liquid and solids, and adapted for mounting on a drilling device in a position for having a drill shaft extending therethrough. A stuffing box attached to a back side of the surge tank means and configured for enabling passage of the drill shaft therethrough prevents the drilling efflux from escaping the surge tank. A flange attached to the front side of the surge tank and aligned with the stuffing box for allowing passage of the drill shaft therethrough provides a seal between the surge tank and a borehole casing to enable the drilling efflux to flow into the surge tank means. An agitator disposed within the surge tank maintains suspension of the solids within the liquid, and a gas cyclone in fluid communication with the surge tank withdraws gas from the surge tank and separates any entrained liquid therefrom. The liquid and solids suspended therein are transferred to a slurry cyclone for separation and thereafter the liquid is stored in a tank for subsequent reuse as a cutting fluid.

Acoustic Measuring System

US Patent:
5062088, Oct 29, 1991
Filed:
Oct 9, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/594581
Inventors:
Amber C. Davidson - Salt Lake City UT
Ernie Vandenwijngaert - Logan UT
Assignee:
Lundahl Instruments, Inc. - Logan UT
International Classification:
G01S 380
US Classification:
367127
Abstract:
Apparatus for sensing distances between two objects by using multiple pulses from the detector and from the object to be detected by using a transmitter and not using any reflected waves the reliability and the ability to reject clutter is improved. The periods between transmission are accurately controlled so that there is no signal returned until the object to be detected generates such a signal. As a result it is possible to accurately measure the distance between two objects and indeed the system may be used between two objects when both are in motion.
