Surgical Scanning System And Process For Use Thereof

US Patent:
6456684, Sep 24, 2002
Filed:
Jul 20, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/620161
Inventors:
Inki Mun - Nanuet NY 10954
Allen B. Kantrowitz - Miami Beach FL 33141
International Classification:
A61B 604
US Classification:
378 20, 378 4, 378 15, 378206, 378209, 5600, 5601, 5611
Abstract:
A surgical scanning system includes a scanner supported on a carrier movable relative to an operating room table. The carrier engages a guide that is collinear with the long axis of an operating room table. The relative movement between an operating room table and a scanner along a guide decreases the likelihood of collision therebetween. The ability to collect a scan of a patient while on an operating room table increases the likelihood of a successful surgical outcome.

Radiolucent Table Extension Assembly

US Patent:
6199233, Mar 13, 2001
Filed:
Mar 3, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/517644
Inventors:
Allen Kantrowitz - Miami Beach FL
In Ki Mun - Miami Beach FL
Charles E. Dinkler - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61G 1312, A47C 2002
US Classification:
5601
Abstract:
An elongated patient support table [22] with a horizontal patient support surface has a contoured radiolucent table extension assembly [26, 126] connected thereto in cantilever fashion for supporting the head and upper torso of a patient [27]. An outer end of the extension assembly [26, 126] has a reduced width compared to the support table [22] to enable extendable movement of the radiolucent extension assembly [26, 126] into a scanning zone defined by a central opening [112] of a diagnostic unit such as a CT scanner [20]. The table extension assembly [26, 126] supports the patient [27] via an inboard radiolucent horseshoe headrest [32, 132] and an outer tool support [54, 122] for holding an outer stabilization device [66, 166] such as a radiolucent skull clamp [74, 174]. The combination of the support table [22] with the radiolucent table extension assembly [26, 126] and the inner and outer stabilization devices [32, 132, 66, 166] support the patient [27] in a desired position during successive scanning or surgical procedures. With an imaging system [24] operatively connected to the CT scanner [20], the table extension assembly [26, 126] permits a neurosurgeon to conveniently obtain updated images of the scanned region after performing a stereotactic operative procedure, thereby to immediately and easily determine if any follow-up procedures are necessary before closing up the surgical incision.

Vacuum Assisted Percutaneous Appliance

US Patent:
2013000, Jan 3, 2013
Filed:
Mar 9, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/416546
Inventors:
Allen B. Kantrowitz - Miami FL, US
Chris Mortin - Beverly Hills MI, US
Assignee:
L-VAD Technology, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
A61M 25/04
US Classification:
604176
Abstract:
A device for reducing agent penetration at an insertion site is provided that has a porous inner sleeve fluidly connected to a conduit. A vacuum or hydrodynamic source is fluidly connected to the conduit. The device is stabilized by fibroblast in-growth and inhibits bacterial colonization.A device is also provided that has a conduit having a bore and an outer conduit surface. The outer conduit surface is optionally nanotextured to promote fibroblast adhesion and limit bacterial residency. A sleeve is provided in fluid communication with the bore of the conduit, and is formed from materials characterized by a pore matrix through which vacuum or hydrodynamic draw is achieved in a process to promote stabilization and reducing bacterial colonization by draw fluid from an area around the surrounding the site of the device. The sleeve optionally has a distal nanotextured surface.

Surgical Glove Appliance Device

US Patent:
8578519, Nov 12, 2013
Filed:
Dec 3, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/959782
Inventors:
Allen B. Kantrowitz - Miami Beach FL, US
In Ki Mun - Nanuet NY, US
International Classification:
A41D 19/00
US Classification:
21617, 2168, 223111
Abstract:
A protective barrier, such as a medical examination glove is provided that includes a bracelet defining a plane with a cylinder attached to the bracelet at a first end. The cylinder is compressed into a compressed conformation in the plane without rolling about the bracelet. When the barrier is a glove, three fenestrated caps are provided, each such cap attached to the cylinder at different locations along the length of the cylinder when said first cylinder is in an extended conformation. Multiple finger cylinders are each attached to the cylinder at a location of a fenestrated cap, the finger cylinders each having an end cap. The first cylinder and the finger cylinders each compressed into a compressed conformation in the plane such that each of the caps forms a portion of the surface of the plane.

Radiolucent Table Extension And Method

US Patent:
6003174, Dec 21, 1999
Filed:
Sep 3, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/922969
Inventors:
Allen Kantrowitz - Miami Beach FL
In Ki Mun - Miami Beach FL
Charles E. Dinkler - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61G 1312, A47G 2002
