Dental Probe Assembly

US Patent:
4883425, Nov 28, 1989
Filed:
Aug 26, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/236773
Inventors:
Alan W. Zimble - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
A61C 300
US Classification:
433 32
Abstract:
A dental probe assembly includes a tool having a handle portion at one end thereof with a probe mounted at the other end. The probe is made of a light conducting member associated with means for transmitting light to the probe. The tool also includes means for sensing the amount of light conducted by the probe. In use the probe would be inserted into a gum pocket and by sensing the amount of light on the probe would be sensed which would correspond to the length of the probe outside of the pocket. The depth of the pocket would be determined from this value.

Dental Syringe For Treating Gums

US Patent:
4950163, Aug 21, 1990
Filed:
May 19, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/195791
Inventors:
Alan W. Zimble - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
A61C 500
US Classification:
433215
Abstract:
A syringe for treating gums includes a cylinder in which a piston is reciprocally mounted. The fluid for treating the gums is located in the cylinder and is expelled from a spout, such as a cannula or other replaceable reusable thin irrigating tip. The tip would have a rounded end if made of metal and would be softer if made of plastic thus rendering it relatively harmless, while thin enough to provide access to the deepest regions of the periodontal pocket and deposit/irrigate effective antibacterial agents so as to eradicate periodontal disease associated micro-organisms. Fluid is discharged by depressing the piston into the cylinder. A resilient member reacts means react between the piston and the cylinder to urge the piston into the cylinder. The user may control the amount of inward movement by manually restraining the piston.

Transparency Mounting Device And Method

US Patent:
4742631, May 10, 1988
Filed:
May 13, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/733637
Inventors:
Alan W. Zimble - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
G09F 100
US Classification:
40158B
Abstract:
A transparency mounting device includes a support member made from a non-opaque material. Adhesive is applied to one face of the support member so that a transparency may be attached thereto. The adhesive has low tack characteristics to permit the ready detachment or repositioning of the transparency. In addition, the adhesive is non-opaque so that transparency may be illuminated through the support member and adhesive.

Dental Probe Assembly

US Patent:
5022856, Jun 11, 1991
Filed:
Oct 24, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/426006
Inventors:
Alan Zimble - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
A61C 1904
US Classification:
433 72
Abstract:
A dental probe assembly includes a tool having a handle portion at one end thereof and a portion detachably connected to the handle. A probe tip is mounted to the neck portion. The probe tip is a disposable light conducting and emitting member. Light is transmitted to the probe tip. The tool also transmits the amount of light emitted by the probe tip. In use, the probe tip would be inserted into a gum pocket and the amount of light would be sensed which would correspond to the length of the probe tip outside of the pocket. This value would be compared with a standard value which corresponds to the full length of the probe tip and the comparison would indicate the depth of the pocket.

Dental Medicament Applicator And Method Of Use

US Patent:
5085585, Feb 4, 1992
Filed:
Feb 5, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/650627
Inventors:
Alan W. Zimble - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
A61G 1702, A61C 500
US Classification:
433 80
Abstract:
A dental medicant applicator includes a U-shaped body member having a base portion with an upstanding peripheral wall. A shoulder is formed near the top edge of the wall. Medicament is placed in the base portion of the applicator. When the applicator is mounted in place the medicament spreads along the teeth. Continued mounting movement of the applicator results in the shoulder forcing the gums outwardly to expose the gum pocket so that the medicament is also deposited into the gum pocket.
